Moms of more than one. Changes in older childs behavior? HELP PLEASE
Okay so my darling Damien has turned into a holy terror. He is fine with Jaidyn wants to kiss and hug her says he loves her, etc. Instead he is taking out his aggression on his classmates. Everyday Steve brings him home it is another day of who he hit or kicked. He is spitting at DH as well as hitting a kicking him. I am very concerned about this behavior. I was prepared for him to be aggressive to the baby, I didn't think it would be towards everyone else. He is getting his adenoids and tonsils out on the 15th of January. I had recently read an article about this in parenting about how kids with behavior problems get better after this surgery because they are finally sleeping the right way (Damien has sleep apnea) So i am hopefully that it will help. Did anyone else's kids go through this? HELP!!

Re: Moms of more than one. Changes in older childs behavior? HELP PLEASE
Has he been on steroids recently?
Joseph would poke the Maddie when she was first born, but a lot of that worked itself out relatively soon - say by the 3 months. It was almost as if he forgot she was new.
I do know about 6 months after she was born, he became more aggressive at school. I had him evaluated & they came up with different answers -
1. the school was boring to him since he learned most of what they were teaching. 2. he was aggressive & frustrated towards the children that were struggling with learning issues. 3. the school was very negative, no behavior modicfication plan. 4. He was often on steroids from RSV, croup & various lung infections.
The fourth issue was the largest according to the child psychologist we brought him to. It hadn't even occurred to me. She explained that when they're on steroids, the adrenal gland stops producing, um I forget the name due to lack of sleep . We were told to stop the steroid cold turkey - and apparently you are supposed to be weaned off steroids, not stopped. She said it takes 2+ months to have it start up & re-regulate itself back to normal.
Hope this helps.

I could of wrote this!!!
Connor is 3 months now. Caiden has always been an angel with him. Doing the same things that Damien is doing. Not showing one sign of anger towards or about the baby, then on Friday we get a call to come to the school because he's flipping out on his teachers and his friends. They tell me that he's been yelling, hitting, kicking, growling, etc. at his friends and teachers. We were like ! We couldn't believe it was sooo bad! He's been acting like that at home with us (not that bad) but we just thought it was us. We didn't know he was doing it at school. They were telling us that he has a lot of anger in him. We don't know what it is? He's really mean to me a lot and my DH, but he doesn't do it as much with my DH because he knows Daddy means business. Mommy is working on meaning business. He has such tantrums it's unbelievable. I wish I had advice, but I don't know what to do myself! Just some

Sorry should have added this in -
If his doctors are saying his adenoids could be affecting his behavior -and I have doctors confirming that Joseph's behavior was because of an adrenal gland issue (albeit steroid related) - I'm thinking that you will see a big change in his behavior after January. I know my friend's daughter had hers operated on - and was relieved at the drop in tantrums afterwards.

Re: Moms of more than one. Changes in older childs behavior? HELP PLEASE
Hate to be your little black cloud, but after my niece was operated on her tantrums stayed the same. She just turned 5... and she was the second child.
As far as my kids go, Alex isnt in pre-k yet because he is much further ahead then the rest of the kids his age down here in FL. He instead takes out his frustrations and whatevernots on our food, and papers.. if he gets into the fridge while I am in the babys room changing the diaper, or even in the bathroom theres something in a mess somewhere.. i feel so bad, and I have no answers.. I brought him for an evaluation for behavior, and they said that there is nothing "abnormal" or "of concern" that they spotted and that unfortunately this is just part of having a 3.5 year old.
---On a totally side note, Stacey, I remember you TTC your big boy!! Congrats on your new addition!!!!
