Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
I think I read somewhere (maybe here) that in order for a newborn to sleep longer, they have to weigh more...their stomachs have to be bigger.
DS is 7 weeks and weighs 10 lbs. (He was a peanut when he was born!) He has gone 5-6 hours between feedings. I don't know if I expect him to sleep longer and he can't just yet because his tummy is too small.
How much does your DC weigh and what is their longest stretch of sleep (or time between feedings?)

My DS slept 8 hrs when he was 6 weeks old but he was almost 10 lbs when he was born! At 12 weeks, he slept 12 hours and has ever since.

Not for me...DS was born 9 14 and at 3 months, he's 17 11 and still wakes for a middle of the night feeding.

DD is 11 pounds and is 6 weeks and is nowhere near sleeping through the night. I hope it comes soon!

Re: Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
DD is 8 weeks & 14 pounds...she has been sleeping 7pm-7am..Sometimes she will up at 4:30 for a few ounces and then goes right back to sleep or some nights she will go down around 7:30 (when she has napped ALOT during the day) My son was bigger than her at 8 weeks and he woke up every 3 hours until almost 6 months (i think)

I wish that were true! My 3 year old is almost 45 pounds and he still does not sleep!

DS is 10 weeks, at his check up today he weighed 14lbs 9 oz. He was born at 6 lbs 6 oz, and has been sleeping 8-10 hours a night since right before 6 weeks

Re: Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
I don't remember that clearly, but I think 6 hours between feedings at 7 weeks is pretty good. I don't think DS went longer than 6-7 hours until he was 3 months and I cut out the 3 am feeding.
ETA - DS was over 9 lbs at birth and has consistently been 95th percentile or higher for height and weight.

Re: Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
I always said it was true, but really I think its the baby...
DS was just under 10lbs at birth. I can count on 1 hand the number of times he has woken up more than 1x in a night since he came home from the hospital.
From the first night he was going 5-6 hours, which he did until about 8 weeks when at nearly 15lbs he was sleeping 8 hours. By 10 weeks he was going 10 hours and now at 7 months thats his norm. Thats what works for us, we put him in at 9 so that we have some time with him, and then he usually gets up between 7-7:30 which is when we are getting ready for work.

Re: Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
There's no direct correlation. Actually, if anything, it should be the other way around. A smaller DC needs less calories to maintain their current body weight, so they need less food. A heavier DC needs to eat more to maintain their weight.

Re: Moms of newborns...correlation between weight and hours of sleep?
What I've read is that once a baby reaches ~11 pounds, they don't physiologically need to wake up to eat in the middle of the night. That doesn't mean that they won't, just that they don't have to.
DD was 11lbs at 5 weeks old (born 9.2lbs) but she didn't sleep through the night consistently until she was almost 5 months.
