Moms of toddlers. . .
Did you find that literally all of a sudden you understood a majority of what your child was saying to you...like BAM! clarity?
In the past week and a half, Bella is speaking in sentences, answering me and having full conversations with me.
Her favorite is "Oh No...." "Oh No, I am tuck" "Oh no, I want to open the door"(after she close it) Oh no, mommy pick me up"

Go Bella! (and Go mom, for her comprehension skills! )
We're actually not quite at that level over here. Alex has an incredibly extensive vocabulary, but she just put her first few words together this week ("Daddy car...vroom vroom", and "Baba booboo").
I'm a little concerned because that's the exact same delay I had at her age (putting sentences together), and what ultimately led to the diagnosis of my learning disability, so I'm hyper, HYPER HYPER attentive to this. I just hope she doesn't follow in my footsteps in that regard because it was one tough road.

Beth, at least you are aware and on the lookout---ALex seems like a smart cookie what you have told us--and look at how you turned out Ms. Lawyer
I have to say, still a LOT of gibberish is being thrown about, but she looks at me like "why don't you understand what the hell I am saying" when I tell her I don't quite understand.

I get that look ALL the time, particularly after she gives a "speech" - I swear, she'll start talking very seriously, furrows her brow, waves her fists in the air, as if she's making a very important, presidential speech. Then, stops, looks at us like, WELL?

Re: Moms of toddlers. . .
Dh was just saying to me last night that a week ago he needed me to interpert everything that James was saying...now he understands him no problem...its like he started putting full sentences together overnight.
we swear he learns about 25 new words every week for the last month or so...its amazing how quickly their speech takes off...when it takes off

Re: Moms of toddlers. . .
I def. see the whole language explosion thing happening... but I feel like a big chunck of the words only me and DH can understand, and the other chunk are clear as day (like Vacuum, and banana- all syllables and letters!!!)
The only real sentences we are getting are:
"whats this?"
Bye-bye bird (or whatever animal/person we are saying goodbye too)
and "Bye-bye dada go vroom vroom"

Yes!! Julia is speaking full sentences a lot now, her new favorite is "Mommy I see the choo choo", or Mommy I said goodbye to dada-Todd"--lol
"I see the woof woof mommy" (doggie)
"What do you want"? and she says it with such attitude too!

Re: Moms of toddlers. . .
I asked our pediatrician about sentences at DS's two year check-up. He said they should have two word sentences by this time, maybe three. I was also concerned that he wasn't forming as many sentences as I thought he should, but apparently we have high expectations for our kids and they are right where they should be. Jesse learns lots of new words every day, and the majority we can understand. His sentences are simple "guys boom boom boom" (we have construction going on at our house), "all done", "all gone", "bye bye daddy" - things like that. Our pediatrician said to give it three to six months and if we are still concerned, then let him know. It seems like almost immediately after we left his check-up, he started speaking more clearly, had more words and more sentences. I guess what I'm trying to say is we expect a lot when maybe it's really too much, and if you are concerned then it can't hurt to have your child evaluated.
