Moms of unhappy babies.....

My DD isnt the happiest of babies. She is 2 1/2 months old. She doesnt really give me that many smiles and she whines a lot.

My question is does it get better as she gets older and when about did she seem happier? I dont want this to be a life long thing.

TIA

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

Right! This is my field of expertise. Noah was the MOST MISERABLE baby in the world. He had to be held all the time, he cried all the time, he wouldn't go to his dad, he wouldn't take a pacifier, there was NO comforting him. He just wanted to be held by me ALL THE TIME. I thought the same thing, that I was going to have a really serious miserable child. My mother told me that I should accept that this is his personality etc etc.

BUT!! Once he would crawl, he started to get better, when he started cruising, he got much better AND NOW!! HALLELUJAH!! He is a total and complete JOY. He is alway smiling, clapping his hands, running to me for cuddles. He is absolutely FANTASTIC!!

It does get MUCH better, just wait until she is a little bit more independant!! That will make a huge change for you and your girl!!!

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

It does get better. DS was a total grump and was extremely fussy- his kicknames used to be Fuss-pot and Cranka$$.
Now he's 5.5months and not nearly as bad. He is still not the smiliest kid in the world, but he does smile a decent amount. Giggles are hard to come by, but it makes them even better.
Don't worry, she'll get happier as she gets older. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My baby is not unhappy at all, but i wanted to recommend you read "Secrets f the Baby Wisperer." She explains the 5 different personalities of babies and how to handle them. I highly recommend it!!!!

I dont think thats it. She doesnt show that she is in pain. She is on Nutramigen to help with that. She poops everyday, and she farts, so it seems as if she is passing the gas. Plus, she isnt making the movements that come along with having gas.

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

Luca wasn't in pain either, he was just a grump. I also found that when he started following a more strict schedule of naps and bedtime that he started getting happier. It may be that she's just too overtired.

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

it definitely gets SO MUCH better! Some babies just have a harder time transitioning to life outside the womb Chat Icon My son was colicky for 2 months and after that 3 month mark he just became happier and happier each week. Plus over that time you both get more used to and comfortable w/the routine and each other which I think puts both of you at ease. It gets better, I promise, hang in there ! Chat Icon

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

Sames here...while I wouldnt say DD was a cranky baby she was very needy and wanted to be held ALL the time...she was also very serious and while I wasnt expecting her to be cracking up at my jokesChat Icon I was comparing her to my friends baby the same age who was always smiling...BUT when she was about 7 months the butterfly emerged and now she is this ball of fun...seriously I spend my day cracking up at her, she is so funny, she copies everything I do, smiles all the time, gives kisses etc so hang in there....a happy smiley baby will emerge.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

My DS was a miserable baby...it was very hard for the first 4-5 mths, but he too grew out of it. He still has a little "crank" left and now I just figue it is part of his personality, but he is 14mths and a very happy kid...but he didn't smile until 3 mths and was soooooo crabby. I even took this pic at 2mths...LOL.

He was a month early and so everything took time with him, even happiness...but hang in there, it will come!!!

Our DS was fussy in the beginning too. At first we thought he was colicky because we had some nights where he would just cry for 3 hours. I think it was gas because he'd let loose a lot..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Putting him down to sleep was a nightmare he would just cry cry cry. That's why today at 10 months he still co-sleeps with us because it was the only way he would sleep.

Now he's not cranky like he was in the beginning. Don't get me wrong he has his moments of crankiness during the day but it's much better than it was in the beginning. He is such a joy now. He likes to crawl and if you give him a ball he likes to get it and once he does he pushes it away just so he can chase it again and he squeals and smiles when he does this. It's so cute. Hang in there it will get better.

eta. If if is gas that your baby has, have you tried the mylicon drops???

Re: Moms of unhappy babies.....

Alex improved, particularly when she became mobile, but, she's still a very "spirited" baby... she's fun and hilarious, but still wants to be held by me all the time, and can be VERY unhappy if things don't go exactly the way she wants them... and, at least 2-3 days a week, she's just generally cranky.

But I love her anyway Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
