Moms or dads who run A LOT with a jogging stroller... HELP!
DH and I run/walk a few miles pretty much every night. I don't know why we waited so long but we're looking for a good jogging stroller now. We have the city mini for everyday use so this would probably strictly be used for running. DH thinks it should have a swivel wheel (that can be locked) b/c his cousin complains that the fixed wheel is annoying when using it for anything other than running.
Which jogger do you have?
Is it easy to run with?
Fixed wheel or swivel w/ lock?
Any other important features you think we would like/need?
Don't want to spend too much, preferably under $200 but will look for something used like the Bob if it is recommended.

Thanks I thought the Bob would be popular. Which Bob? I was looking into those... revolution, SE, sport utility or ironman?

I got the bumbleride indie. Love it!
It's pricey but I got mine at BBB on clearance.
The front wheel swivels but can be locked. Great to run with. The handle padding is very comfortable. And my DD is 21 months and loves the seat. We had the city mini and now she can see so much more. Plus it has a belly bar so she can pull herself forward to see more. She spends our runs pointing and asking "what's that's????"

my dh runs a lot with Luce and we got a Schwinn Joyrider. they both love it. it's lightweight and very smooth. luce naps in it. it's so comfortable and very easy to lay flat.
it was highly recommended by Runner's World magazine.

ETA: the schwinn has a huge canopy with a rain cover that zippers inside when not in use. it also has a hand break, which is key for me.

I love the Citi Mini so much that I was looking into the Summit XC
It has a front swivel that has the option to lock. Plus - I LOVE baby jogger's extended sun canopy.
We currently have a jogger that has a small canopy & DS screams any time the sun is in his eyes - (can't blame him). The one we have also just has a stationary front wheel, which is a PITB if you're walking with it for turns, etc.

Thanks Jess, do you find the fixed wheel is an issue at all? Len is kind of against it now that someone said they hate it (and they are big fitness people).

I am going to forward this question to Leo and see what he has to say.

We have the BOB Ironman single and BOB sport utility double. They both have a fixed wheel...not swivel and we like it that way. We've never used anything else so we might just be used to that. I would recommend BOB highly.

Leo's answer the only time the fixed wheel would be an issue for me is if you also use the stroller in places of high traffic where you need to slalom or navigate around people or objects. if that is the case, then i would get one that has a free wheel that can be locked and unlocked. but for straight up running, the fixed wheel is great. also the ones with free wheels usually come with smaller wheels which generally = more exertion required to push the damned thing and also not as good on uneven surfaces. Think of a small compact car vs an SUV going over bumpy roads.

I scored a double baby trend jogger for 20.00 on craigslist.
kids are comfy...i bought a shade extender to go over it. fixed wheel.
i only do 2 miles a day with it, but holding up great.
before that, single was a schwin...also really good.

I agree that the only time the fixed wheel becomes an issue is in crowds. My solution is to just keep going, people move.
honestly, i hated the swivel wheel even in crowds. So i found with the stationary wheel that i just lean on the handle slightly to elevate the front wheel enough to manuever it through whatever crowd i see.
If your using it for running, your going to keep the wheel stationary for that, so i wouldn't make it a deal breaker if thats your main purpose.

Re: Moms or dads who run A LOT with a jogging stroller... HELP!
If you're strictly using it for running only the fixed wheel is the way to go. If you plan on using it for outings or regular stuff then get a swivel wheel. People swear by the Bobs but I'm sure there are other joggers out there just as good for less$$. Good Luck.

Thank you! I think the fixed wheel is actually a good thing too, i'll have to sell DH on it. We will continue to use the city mini as our main stroller and the jogging stroller will be strictly for running.

I agree that the fixed wheel is great for jogging, I guess I just like that on my BOB it unlocks to swivel since it is also our everyday double stroller too.
