Moms that recently gave birth at LIJ in New Hyde Park!
A few questions: 1) Is there still an H1N1 ban for children, specifically siblings? 2) I heard that due to the construction, most of the rooms are 4 people now and it is super crowded. Is this true?

The ban has been lifted...I had to go to antepartum (sp?) yesterday and all the signs are down and no more security to get in. There was a child on the floor with their parents.
I think that L&D is still the same but that is another floor so I didn't see. I would assume same number of rooms as they've had with most being 4. I can tell you very soon

Re: Moms that recently gave birth at LIJ in New Hyde Park!
my friend gave birth at LIJ in late December and she was in a room with 4 beds of which 3 were occupied. Unfortunately, the other 2 women were very loud and rude and she did not have a good experience. She said that had she known she would have paid for a private room. When I gave birth (not a LIJ) I shared a room with one woman and it was a great experience and I wouldn't have changed a thing. So I guess it's just luck!

Re: Moms that recently gave birth at LIJ in New Hyde Park!
Vaginal births are more likely to get the 4 person rooms. USUALLY, c-section moms get the two person rooms. I got a private room that I did not pay for because Abby was an emergency c-section after she was in fetal distress and the nurse manager in recovery worked a miracle.
As far as the construction goes, I honestly do not see how it would interfere at all since it is a completely different building. I would think that unless more women than usual have babies at once, it would be the same situation as before or as it is now.
The one thing I liked about the old one (way it is now) is that the maternity floor is the third floor as is the NICU at Schneider and I was able to take a back entrance without having to go downstairs and back up or out of the buildings to see Abby.

I gave birth in October and DS was able to come and visit. I was in a room with 2 people. When I gave birth to DS, I was in a room with 4 people. It really wasnt that bad.

Re: Moms that recently gave birth at LIJ in New Hyde Park!
well I was there end of dec (had my DD 12/28 left on 12/31. The H1N1 ban was still going on and when people came to visit me I was only allowed 3 visitors but fro some reason the other people in my room were allowed as many as they wanted and they stayed til like 10-11 pm some nights.
As far as I know, a lot of the rooms were 4 to a room, there were also single and double rooms though. I guess it depends on when you get there. If I knew that I would have defineitly asked for a double room bc the 4 people in a room sucked

wow you are soooo lucky! I cried everyday and begged my doctor to let me out early bc the other people in my room were horrible!!! (4 person room) I know at least 1 of them had a c-section and I had an emergency C

Re: Moms that recently gave birth at LIJ in New Hyde Park!
The ban was lifted the day I had DD, it was great, but some of the hospital staff didn't even know the ban was lifted yet, but DS was able to visit.
Also they try and give women who have had a c-section a double room and save the rooms of 4 for women with vaginal births, but it doesn't always work out. Both times I was at LIJ was in a room of 2 on the 4th floor, which is great! There is a nursery up there with less babies and it is quieter.
