Moms who breastfed their babies while taking care of a toddler???!!
I nursed my DD until she was 15 months old... but I remember how for quite some time those nursing sessions seemed to take forever, and they were quite often. Now that I am pregnant with #2... I'm starting to wonder how this is going to work? DD will be 3 and is very active, and I really can't imagine her just sitting there for 45 mins at a time, multiple times a day. I know for sure I will supplement with formula, at least once a day... but I'm wondering how everyone else handled this?? Thanks so much in advance for any advice or tips!!!

How shy are you? I was extremely shy so BFing my second was difficult once the warmer weather started.. my oldest is an outdoors kinda kid. She wanted to be out all the time.. and trying to get her inside so I could feed her sister was a horror. I was too shy to do the wraps also.. bc i live in my fathers house and it was his yard.
Otherwise all good.. except my oldest trying to copy her sister by trying to bite my boob..

DS and DD are 26 months apart. I had help for the first month when we were home. For the first two weeks I hired a baby nurse and the second two weeks DH took off from work. When I am nursing DD: DS plays with his toys. I have him pick out a couple of books and he sits next to me while I read them. In the beginning I put on Sesame Street so he would have something to do.

Right now, hate to say it, but the TV is my friend. I put on shows that DS likes..

you'll get very good at doing things one-handed!
Ella was a month shy of 2 when Erik was born, and I nursed him for a year. There were often times that I was reading to Ella while nursing, coloring or feeding her while nursing, or carrying Erik around while he was latched on to take care of some need of hers (like potty training, lol).
and sadly, the TV was quite useful to occupy her!

So glad another mom already typed this in and I don't have to.
All the same here-except my son was 2 and 2 weeks when my daughter was born. The key also is to let everyone settle into a routine and explain to the older what's going on and that you were feeding him the exact same way.
And I hated using the TV as a babysitter but I had no choice I only did it for night feedings though

Re: Moms who breastfed their babies while taking care of a toddler???!!
In the beginning, when nursing sessions took EONS... I bought LOTS of arts and crafts and art projects for Alex, and she would do that while I nursed. Otherwise, I would try to include her as much as possible, by reading her a book while I nursed, asked her to help out with putting things away for the baby, or I would ask her to put on a show for me while I fed Yael.
As I got more comfortable nursing in public, I would just take them both out - either to eat at a restaurant, playdates or at the park.

Me too. DD was the SLOWEST nurser, most feedings were close to an hour so I have no clue how I'd be able to devote so much time to session like that if #2 is the same. Or even how I'll deal with nursing while I want to be out & about with the family when baby's still young since I can't sit in the house with a 3-year-old.

I could have written this word for word, down to the kids being 23 months apart! Thankfully, DS2 was a very efficient nurser and we were down to 5 minutes per side by 2 months! That could be why I nursed for 15 months...

Re: Moms who breastfed their babies while taking care of a toddler???!!
My dd was much younger when I had #2 so I don't know how much this will help.
When I would nurse ds, she would sit on the other side of me and we would read or sing or color. She was able to play solo for a little while too. I also had some specific toys that she could play with while nursing. HTH

Re: Moms who breastfed their babies while taking care of a toddler???!!
This is something that I think about all the time. I wasn't able to successfully nurse DS for more than 6 weeks, so I'm afraid I won't get to with this DC.
I always read that "tv will be your friend". But I'm curious DS is 13 months old and doesn't watch TV, like I'll put it on and he will look at it for 30 sec. and thats it. When he's 18 months will he watch a show? lol.
