Moms who breastfeed- anyone else have an "uneven" supply? (long)

I have noticed that I am getting a lot more milk from my left breast than from my right- this morning I got nearly 3 oz. from the left and less than an ounce from the right (I spent 15 minutes on each side). I also see the difference when I nurse- Emma gets very frustrated when I have her on the right breast, but is totally relaxed when I have her on the left. I don't know if this is normal, or if there's anything I can do. Anyone? I had to supplement with formula for a while because she wasn't gaining weight, but now I am afraid to stop because of this issue.

I was having the same problem...and now it seems that I am not making any milk at all on both sides! I have been only getting a drop out on the right and NOTHING on the left. DS has been frustrated trying to eat and getting nothing out! I just spent $150 on a lactation consultant to come teach me how to breastfeed because he wasn't latching on properly and now that I got it working my milk is drying up! How does that happen??

My ped told me that it was "demand and supply" and told me that pumping would increase my supply, because at the beginning my milk was also slow to come in. He also said to keep pumping for a few minutes after emptying the breast.

Pumping did help me, but now I have the lopsided issue. Chat Icon Do you have a pump? Also, the doctor said to make sure you're eating and drinking enough, and resting (easier said than done.) Good luck!

I got more milk out of my left side than my right with both kids. It's normal! I always switched sides at every feeding too.

Yes i used to get more out of the left then the right. So I started nursing on the right all the time to even things out and now I seem to fluctuate. Sometimes more on the left sometimes more on the right. It's perfectly normal.

It happened to me too. I didn't get as much milk from my right breast as from my left, regardless of starting every feeding from that breast and pumping.

I sometimes get more out of one too. If DD finished her feeding on the left, that breast didn't produce as much if I pumped a little bit later.

Also, don't always start with the same side. DD would get tired on the 2nd breast and not suck as vigorously or for as long. At the next feeding, I'd start with that breast. Give them equal face time so to speak.

Yeah, it's normal -- I have one super-producer boob and one looser boob. I always get way more out of my right than my left. I only notice it when I pump, though.

me too- DD latches better on the good boob- I think that is why. But I suffer from horrible supply issues anyhow.

My right side produces so much more but for some reason DD doesn't actually like it as much and I am more comfortable with her on the left side. Unfortunately, even when I try to pump the right side to get it to empty, the milk keeps coming.

Freeze it! When I started cutting out feedings I was still able to give Luca breast milk.

Duh, I should have thought of that.

I was having the same problem in the beginning and when I tried to pump, I realized nothing was coming out of my right boob - 3oz at the most - but I was getting 6-7 out of my left. Turns out I had a clogged duct. I pretty much only pump now (except @ night so I dont have to get up to warm a bottle) b/c this is an ongoing problem, and my guy gets fussy b/c he cant get anything. I use a warm compress to help "clear" the ducts and it has been helping tremendously!

I've been BF for eight months & my right breast produces much less than the left. It's normal.
