For example how long did it take for the Dr/nurses to examine baby & introduce you to BF. Did baby go straight to the nursery after exams/ feeding or were visitors allowed to immediately come in & see baby?
How about during regular visiting hours -were the 2-4 max visitors in your room followed through? So it could be up to 8 visitors there then? 4 for you & 4 for your roomate?
If I ask the nurses not to bring me baby for BF or examine me while visitors are there, is that an out there request?

I delivered there in 10/08. I had a C- section so I got to see DS as soon as he was born. I held him on the way to recovery once I was all stitched up. I breastfed about an hour and a half after he was born, while in recovery. The nurse helped me out. I gave birth in the middle of the night so I don't know about guests visiting. We told our guests to come the next day.
As for guests, I had about 6 guests at times. So did my roommate (when I had one).
I don't recall the nurses ever examining me when there were g uests.

I didn't BF, but we hung out in L&D for a few hours both times.
My parents were allowed to come in and meet the baby

I had a different situation, because I had a c-section and a fever during labor, so DS had to go straight to the NICU, I saw him for about 10 seconds before they whisked him away. Because of swine flu, no one is allowed in the NICU but the parents. My DH got to visit him there while I was in the recovery room and they wheeled my stretcher in so I could spend some time with him once I was out of recovery. I did not BF.
They really didn't follow the visiting hours rules for number of people. I had a private room though, so we just closed the door if we had more than 4 visitors. It was also Thanksgiving weekend, the maternity ward wasn't that busy.
I basically had the baby in my room the whole day. They really encourage that. They will come in to examine you, but they only did blood pressure and IV checks while others were there. Other exams weren't during visiting hours.
I delivered in November 2009.

Re: moms who delivered at winthrop- can you please walk me though what happems after the birth?
I delivered in 07 and the visit hours/rules were different at the time.
I knew I would BF and I would do it RIGHT after the c-section. I had read that it was best to do it right away after birth (within 2 hours!).
So while shaking and in recovery I insisted in BFing DS. They (nurses) asked multiple times and I said I want to BF.
DS as born within 20 minutes after I was "opened up". It took another 45 minutes to stitch me up. While I was being closed up. They took care of DS then gave him to DH and they both sat next to me.
I was transfered to recovery (literally 30 ft away) and they gave me DS within 15 minutes after I was all hooked up, etc...I BFd him for a few minutes. Then they took him to the nursery to be cleaned up more, changed, etc...
