Moms who HAD baby boy circumcised...
Sorry for my ignorance but did you have to do anything different to make sure it doesn't get infected or anything like that? I am just wondering how it heals, does it take long, does it look different, and do you need to treat it differently (i.e. put anything on it, etc)? Thank you!!

Re: Moms who HAD baby boy circumcised...
The cut area looked very red (cherry red) and my sons did bleed (although it is rare) so I was upset and not sure what to do. However the bleeding shortly stopped, and all was ok.
You are advised to put vaseline on a gauze pad (the small squares) and place on the area at each diaper change...this keeps his pee pee from sticking to the diaper. It really works, we had no problems and it heals very fast. It will start to crust a little and that is the sign its healing.
Other than that, nothing else was a problem. I think it took 10 days or so before I thought it looked great...we bathed him in the tub when it was all healed as well (Also around the same time the umbilical cord stump falls off).
HTH!!!

Also..its rare for it to become infected, but you would be able to tell...it would be green pus most likely and a fever...however i believe its rare. Changing the diapers every 2 or 3 hours should keep the area clean!

And don't forget after it heals to pull the skin from the head of the penis from the body of the penis. Or else it can grow together. This happened to Andrew and when we went to the ped he had to pull it apart and it def hurt him a lot.

Re: Moms who HAD baby boy circumcised...
My son (now 15) had it done. But they did it half-a**..... I put the vasaline on him, but unfortunatally I still had to pull his skin back like he wasn't done. And teach him how to later on.
But this is very rare. My nephew got it done, they put a "bell" on it, and the foreskin just fell off, less painful for the babies. She also used vasaline.

I had to put neosporin on it and change the gauze. Nothing too difficult.

DEFINATELY very important and the Drs and nurses don't tell you this. DS also had to have it pulled apart (by a pediatric urologist b/c it was very stuck) and luckily it hasn't happened again.
