Monday... Sippy Cup Free Room!!!
So when I dropped DS off at daycare this morning, there was a sign posted outside stating "Monday, June 22 the Purple Cat room will be a sippy cup free room."
DS is 21 months and he can drink out of a regular cup, but a lot of it ends up all over his shirt many times. I feel like this is such a big boy step for him!
I guess starting Monday I will be sending LOTS of extra shirts to school with him!

Wow -- that's a big step!
We'd have one hydrated toddler if my daycare did that because I know it would wind up on his shirt. They'd just be better off giving him a garden hose. At least he'd wind up just as wet but quenched.
Good luck Lucas!!!

Yeah, our daycare has a way of forcing us to take the next step! i kind of appreciate it!
They tell me it is because they are getting them ready for the 2 year old room. In the next room there are no more sippy cups at all and no pacifiers. At least he doesn't use a paci!
i'm just glad we have been practicing with the cups at home!

Good luck!! Jeremy's school is also sippy cup free. They give the kids little dixie cups filled with about a drop of water to prevent as many accidents as possible!

Mollie is almost 3...and I would never give her a cup as the only option. I mean, she can drink out of it, but she still wears most of it. I don't see getting rid of the sippy cup anytime soon! Good luck Lucas!!!!

DD is 22 months and we've been working on this one-it's going to me a long process.
Good luck to your little one on Monday!

Re: Monday... Sippy Cup Free Room!!!
Caden get's a sippy cup when he is out and about. But we have been giving him a regular plastic cup with his meals. We've been doing this since he was 12 months.
The big thing for them is that they have to pay attention to what they are doing.
You'll see...in no time...he'll be awesome at it!

I didnt realize you had to stop at a certain age..My boys are 21 months and I wouldnt think of giving them a regualr cup because it would be every where but is this something I should be working on? DO you use special kids cips?

Well, I wouldn't have stopped at this age on our own, but the daycare is going to get the ball rolling for us.
When I give DS a regular cup at home, I have little plastic cups that I put just a couple of sips of water in. If I put too much in, he will spill it all over! But at our house he will probably still use a sippy cup... so he can take it around with him and not spill!

Re: Monday... Sippy Cup Free Room!!!
My 16 month old DS tries to drink out of the top of the cup and and not the bottom --- like 12 o'clock, not 6 o'clock.
Then he gets mad when he spills.
I've seen kids in my daycare in the 3+room w/ binkies still.
not sure how I feel about the cups, we are trying to get rid of the binky but...

Yeah, I was surprised. They told me that in the 2+ room, they are not allowed to have the pacifiers. That one doesn't affect us because DS doesn't use a paci.
