montauk help

we've never been there but would like to go for a four-day weekend in the summer sometime. we don't have a car though and would either take the hampton jitney or the train out from manhattan. is it possible to do a weekend there w/o a car? or are things too spread out? does anyone have any hotel recommendations?

thanks!!

Re: montauk help

The town is small, you really dont need to drive around much. But there are cabs all over if you need one. I love Montauk and go every summer. If you need any help let me know...

Places I have stayed at and really liked...
The Beach Plum
WaveCrest
Panoramic View
Sunrise Guest House

Places that were okay/nice but not great
Montauk Motel
Montauk Manor
Lido

I've gone out there many times for day trips - I live out East to begin with. The one advantage of having a car is that you can explore other towns - East Hampton, Water Mill, Sag Harbor, etc. If you are into Bike Riding, you can go over to Shelter Island for the day.

I think for a weekend you are OK without a car, if you stay near the center of town. You can go to the beaches right there and also have restaurants and shops withing waking distance. Otherwise, you need a car if you are not staying right in town. IMO...

I agree on this. We have been to Montauk alot (we got engaged there too). We stay at Daute's Albross Inn which is 100 ft. from the beach and I can give you a list of my favorite restaurants if you want too.
