Montauk w/ the Kids? or other 2-3 day trip suggestions?
Mine are 3 & 5 and LOVE the beach/pool. DH had to turn around and fly back from our Disney vacation in June (auditors showed up @ work) so we have a week in August that we know is now 'safe' to plan something. We were originally supposed to go to CA alone for his 40th BDay, but since he missed our whole family trip, we want to do something w/ the kids for a few days, and then spend the end of the week on a short getaway for us ..........But we don't want to go totally 'kid centric' like Dutch Wonderland or something along those lines ........
Has anyone been to the Montauk Blue Hotel? it's on the beach ......recently renovated, walkable to town - but $540 a night !!!! - I could FLY somewhere for that ! It makes me crazy ....... Any suggestions ?? TIA !

I am not sure if they'd be all booked up already for the summer, but my sister always stays at the Beach Plum. It's walkable to town, across the street from the beach, and she says it's clean and very nice. It's a lot less than $540 a night too. They do have a minimum stay, and like I said, they might already be all booked up for the summer but worth a look

Other ideas are:
Boston & cape cod.
Cape may is also a possibility (though at this point, you may have to stay closer or at AC).
Connecticut has a bunch of beaches & hotels on them and is less to stay (and different).

Just be forewarned, (and I Love Montauk) that if it is bad weather and you are in a motel with two kids, there isn't much to do at ALL.

Good point - and I'll kill someone if I spent that kind of money on a hotel !!
I'm not interested in doing Boston in the August heat - it's like being in NYC ....I'll save that for the fall / winter
maybe I'll look into CT .......or jjust suck it up and do Hershey

How about Great Wolf Lodge in PA? The water park is indoors, so even if the weather is bad, the kids can still have fun.

My sister just got back from Ocean City MD and LOVED it. She spent less for a week than 3 nights at the Montauk Blue Hotel lol. Kid-friendly, lots to do, and tons of restaurant options if your kids are picky eaters.

I second Ocean City, MD. Just had a bunch of friends go with their kids (10 months to 2.5 years old) and they had a great time.
You can also do Wildwood, NJ or The Great Wolf Lodge in PA.

We go to Bethany/Rehobeth/OC every year. We stay in Bethany because my parents have a house there, but we do some nights out in Rehobeth and OC. I grew up spending my whole summer in OC.

I wouldn't do Montauk but that's because I'm not a fan. I was there once for a long weekend (pre-kids) and was horrified by the type of motel you get for $$$. I also felt like there was nothing to do there and didn't really feel like I was "getting away" since we were still on LI. But that's just me, some people love it.
I like the Rohobeth beach recommendation, we used to go there when I was a kid and I remember it being fun.

Re: Montauk w/ the Kids? or other 2-3 day trip suggestions?
Thanks - I think I'm taking Montauk off the table w/ the kids......all good points, and the price of the 'hotel' makes me gag for what I KNOW it's going to be .........
As far as Ocean City or Rehoboth - I'm all for it, but any recc(s) for specific places to stay? I can research food/activities etc. - But I like to get hotel recc(s) ........I have an ON the beach requirement, b/c if I have to drive to the beach and pack/unpack the car, well, I can do that home! I've been researching those too, but I'm unsure. I was also looking into Maine or Cape Cod .......I'm VERY open to suggestions -
Thanks !!
