Re: Montessori school
Friends of the family both work for CA and use Montessori for daycare. They seem to like it but I think they make the kids behave older than they should (no sippy cups, no euphemisms). Their school picture makes 9 month olds looks like 2 year olds.

Re: Montessori school
My children are in a Montessori preschool. I LOVE the toddler program, but I am not as crazy in love with the pre-k.

Re: Montessori school
thanks for your info. I thought it was more based on the chids pace. When they were ready for certain things, bottle vs sippy cup, etc. Thanks so much.

Yes, my daughter is in a montessori program and we love it!!
It is based on the childs pace - but know that every montessori is different. They all have different ways of doing things so you should look into more than one montessori if that is what you are interested in.

Re: Montessori school
My youngest was in a Montessori based program, for about a year and a half. I never looked for a Montessori program per se, but the school she was in took over another school and added a Montessori cirriculium to certain rooms.
I'm not a huge fan of Montessori and I know most teachers dislike it. The reason I gave it a shot with my daughter is because she just misses the cutoff for school and felt she would benefit by being in the middle, age wise is a room (in my school 3 and 4 year olds were together). For the year she was there, we both liked it, but for pre K I moved her into a straight pre k program in the same school. As another poster said I wasn't thrilled with the laid back attitude as she got older. I have an older child and believe that when they enter kindergarten, they don't get the opportunity to do things at their own pace and that pre K has to prepare them for that eventuality.
ETA That all Montessori programs are a little different and different things work for different children. With my daughter, academics were never my issue, because she has always been ahead. I didn't like what I perceived to be the lack of structure. I also hear the voice of a good friend, who has taught 1st grade for 16 years, telling me she can always pick out the Montessori kids and she feels they have a harder adjustment to real school.
