More BFing questions...
OK- So my milk has started coming in...
RJ eats about every 2-3 hrs (give or take a half an hour) I usually do about 15-20 min on each breast or if his latch is real good then a half on one breast and then I pump the other...
When I pump I usually get about an ounce of formula..
My plan is to Breast feed throughout the day and then give one bottle of formula at night.. ( since Im pumping one night feeding will prbably be a bottle of breast milk as well) so far he's take to all of these things very well!!!
My question is...First off..my timing on the breast..is it enough????? How necessary is it to always rotate???
Also- How much should he be getting?? He usuallly takes about an ounce of formula (during his night feeding) and then when I give him breast milk in a bottle that too is about an ounce.. (however he seems to **** that down so quick)... Is this all enough?
TIA

Re: More BFing questions...
The general belief is that a baby can drain a single side in 20 minutes. While the body does continuously produce milk, it would be just a drip after 20 minutes on a single side. So, if the baby is still hungry, it makes sense to switch sides so that he can get a volume of milk again. My understanding is that rotating is necessary until supply is well established and a single side is able to satisfy the babies hunger.
Sorry I can't help with the questions about number of ounces, I've only breastfed...

Re: More BFing questions...
Be careful letting him stay on one side too long. I was sometimes doing 30 minutes and that led to my whole "baby vomiting blood" episode. I am not producing enough milk though so that makes my situation a little more complicated as far as timing thoug.
