More digital prints questions!!!

Okay, so I've ordered from Kodak, Winkflash and York. The Kodak orders were great. 1 out of the three Winkflash orders came back very pixelated and the York prints came back the same way. I have a 7.1 mp camera and don't do a ton of cropping, but still some.
Why would they come back pixelated?

What are some things I can do to prevent that?

Do these labs have bad batches from time to time?

Does adding borders affect them?

the borders shouldn't affect it. If they're regular 4x6 prints it would take a LOT of cropping to make them pixelated.

It may also depend on the way you're sending the file and how they're converting it. If it's a jpg, how high the quality, what's the filesize. When you upload images on shutterfly, it tells you how big you can blow up each file.


ETA: Are you shooting them all on high res?

eta. yes labs have bad batches sometimes. If you're not happy, I'd send them an email to redo them at no charge.

did you have the optimum resolution for the print size?

I think we fixed it! I was exporting to the desktop before ordering and it was shrinking the pictures, making them poor quality for a 4x6 print. Now I have to make sure I use the right resolution if I export. Does that make sense?

Yup. That's why I email pictures to people if they're printing out. Glad you figured it out.
