I didn't see any of your other questions, so maybe you answered it there - but why did you put the diaper back on him?

so he does not pee all over the house.

Should I just let him pee and wet himself?

I just introduced potty training. But because he has sensory issues, I had to make sure we did not have issues with his skin touching the seat. He had refused to sit on the hard plastic small potty. I got him a cushiony one for other the big toilet. Right now I had "1" pee over the toilet. But he is accepting to sit on it. Granted he knows he will get M&Ms if he does. The kid is smart and "willing" to work through his sensory issues with the proper "motivaters".

I guess I am trying to address the issues one at a time. Chat Icon

DS sits for about 5 mins.
Then I tell him to sing his ABCs and he can get up.
This was when we 1st started.

Now, he goes as soon as he sits. If I have a feeling he has to poop, I have him sit and sing ABCs AND Twinkle Twinkle! LOL.

DH took him in once, DS was singing ABCs..Got to "P" and the poop happened!

We use trains as motivators. He doesn't like M&Ms (how hes my son, is beyond me) LOL.

Ok, I have no clue what to do with the sensory issues and I wouldn't want to screw anything up so I will just tell you what I did with Jack.

I would give him a cup of milk or juice about 30 mins prior in the beginning. I kept putting him on the toilet. Every 15-20 minutes or so until he peed in the toilet, then he got Skittles.

If he was sitting on the toilet and nothing was coming out I also ran the water Chat Icon

We went cold turkey one day - but I'm not sure if that's the best approach for you Chat Icon

Re: More Potty Training Q: How long does DC sits on the toilet?

Sensory issues seems to have passed. Just him sitting on the seat was a 1st step.

This morning he got up, we went on potty instantly. His diaper was still dry from the night.

Yes, I ran the water. He peed almost instantly. He got 3 orange M&Ms (his favorite color!).

He did seem surprised that I was doing cartwheels in the hallway. Like "what did I do that she is THAT excited and I got "free" M&Ms?" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
