more questions about how to pick a pediatrician
how many would you make appointments to "interview"? i want to be selective without going crazy.
what is the process when you pick one? i assume they need to know that they are my final choice and that the hospital will be calling them to come in (one of the ones i called mentioned that the doctor will show up at the hospital to check the baby. i have not asked the others about this yet).
if i interview a pediatrician, do i have to let them know one way or the other whether i plan to use them?

Re: more questions about how to pick a pediatrician
When you give birth you usually have the pediatricians name down in your paper work..the hospital then calls the pediatrician for you..I remember them asking me as well while I was in labor.
I dont have a pediatrician yet..If he doesnt come by Monday we are inducing on Tuesday!!!! Im simply going to take who the hospital assigns (St Catherines) and see if I like them or not..IMO its hard to sit there and interview a pediatrician without seeing how they interact with your child. Bedside manner is very important to me and how am I going to judge that without the patient????
Since I live in the Smithtown area as well....Feel free to FM me in a couple of weeks if you still need a pediatrician and I'll let you know how I feel about the one got from the hospital etc...

Re: more questions about how to pick a pediatrician
I plan to meet with 3. I have met one so far and really liked him, however, I want to be certain. There was no pressure from him at all. I did not have to give him my decision. He isnt affiliated with the hospital I will be delivering in so my OB will assign one to check the baby out. The pedi. told me to make an appointment to come in with the baby 48-72 hrs. after he is released from the hospital. I did have a bunch of questions to ask him during the "interview" however I didnt need to ask many because he answered most of them while speaking to us about his office/practice/advice.
ETA - If you want the name/number of the pedi we met with FM me. I dont think the office is too far from you.
