That is a virus. It happened on my computer too before I had a Mac.
Are you computer savvy?
You need to download and run a good antivirus. I think I used Malware Bytes and I am pretty sure I had to download something else to unhide everything.

I don't know what happened but I sympathize because as I just posted yesterday, I lost most of what was on my flash drive and I have no idea what happened.
I backed it up a few months ago but I still lost stuff.
it stinks.

Try unhideing your folders and files
I repaired a computer recently that everything was just hidden. That was new to me. To play it safe, i recovered the files then wiped the computer.

This just happened to my cousin. She brought her computer over and my DH was able to recover all her data but he had to reformat the computer afterwards. It was a virus.

Re: Most of the stuff on my computer just disappeared!
I had to deal with this about a month ago. Thank goodness I was able to look up how to fix it from my phone because there was nothing left on my computer!! Even when I entered into safe mode.
I had to use four different programs to fix and recover everything!!

Scan your PC http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Get antivirus software. Both AVG and AVAST are free.
click on the one on the left, even though it looks grayed out- AVAST FREE
Again you want the one on the left - AVG FREE

Unfortunately avast is what I have on my computer and it didn't catch it to begin with.
I'm posting from my phone right now, but when ds goes down for a nap I will get on my desktop and post what I did.

Re: Most of the stuff on my computer just disappeared!
DS napped for only a short while today, sorry I couldn't get on sooner.
What I did to get rid of my problem was the following.
start the computer in safe mode (as your computer is turning on or rebooting hit the F8 key)
First I installed THIS program. It kills Malware from running.
Then I installed a trojan killer program ( HERE is the one that I used)
after that I downloaded THIS and ran it.
then.....
I unhid my files that the stupid virus hid. I followed THESE directions for my operating system.
and last but not least !!
I installed and ran THIS program. It scans the computer and gives it a score. It helps you update things like Adobe, Java, etc so you are current and up to date. A friend of mine told me that sometimes these viruses are imbedded in the old versions when a new one comes out and can infect your computer that way.
All I know is that this was a PAIN IN THE A$$ to remove but I am so lucky I did.
