Mother's Day card vent
I was just shopping for cards & decided to get my cousin one for her 1st Mother's day.
I found one that looked cute & opened it to read the inside, which said something like. ."celebrating the little one who made your life complete. . . "
Really? Because her life was incomplete before she had her daughter?
I know she is thrilled to have a child & loves her to pieces, but she was CF for a long time & I don't think she found the first 15 years of her marriage incomplete.
I could not buy this card. I am sure I am over-thinking it, but since I have no children, if I sent this, it would be like saying my own life is incomplete.
Ew.
Fortunately, I found a cute Classic Pooh 1st mother's day card in a different section, which is perfect for my cousin.
It's actually perfect for a CF person to send, b/c it calls her baby the " most precious in the world" & if I had kids, that would be offensive to them! My cousin's is the only baby in the family, so she can have all the superlatives she wants.
Edited to fix my angry typos.

Yes, my life is incomplete because I do not have children. I will never be complete then.
I don't like Mother's Day.
It's a sad day for me. It reminds me that my mom died, and that I don't have children. I don't have any aunts in this country, my grandma's are long gone too. I just want to hide in bed, under the covers, with the shades drawn.
I feel lost on Mother's Day.

Then again, I still take issue with the fact that every wedding vendor called the wedding "the most important day of your life". Pathetic.

Isn't that depressing? I was 28 when I got married. They made it sound like I had nothing to live for after that!
It wasn't even the most expensive day of my life. That would be my college graduation.

Re: Mother's Day card vent
I've heard many parents say that they felt that way, so I'm sure they're just capitalizing on it by putting it in a card. I know it's irksome but the only thing I really have a problem with is when parents assume that the opposite is true of my life.
Since everyone is different, you could argue that different things make different people feel "complete". Jerry Maguire found his. I've found mine. Why does mine have to be the same as yours? It doesn't. It's when people ASSume that *my* completion is the same as theirs that I have a problem with.
There are people in this world who will always want to put everyone into little neat groups to make themselves feel all warm and fuzzy, that they know it all. And anyone who doesn't fit into a specific set of criteria is resented. I pity them, because they will never get it, and I will not waste my time trying to change that.
I bought 2 musical cards for my mom and sister with the two characters on them that have those annoyingly funny high voices. Friggin hilarious. I have no idea what their names are. One is green and one is pink or orange. I can't stop opening them, the dogs go crazy.

Re: Mother's Day card vent
Mother's day and Father's day both stink for me. My mom is the worst and I haven't seen her in 20 years, my dad passed away almost 10 years ago, I have no family that I can celebrate with due to distance and just simply wanting to
This year my DH is out of town so it's just me and my Chloegirl...hey I'm her mom right so we are celebrating with some wet food for her maybe I will pick up some yummy brunch food for me!
ETA...as far as that card...I kind of understand it because my dad used to say when I was growing up that he felt like his life was complete due to the joy I gave him and how well I turned out...so I guess it's something that parents feel and adults without children define their lives in different ways!

I think what bugged me was that it wasn't a mom saying this, it was some 3rd party. (Yeah--I read waaaaaaay to much into it! ) So, I then inferred that this annonymous card writer was assuming the opposite about all CF people.
I know--too much effort for a $4 card.
And for the record, I enjoyed Jerry McGuire, but I always thought that "you complete me" line was cheesy BS! (Yeah, I'm super-romantic, can't you tell? )

Re: Mother's Day card vent
I don't know... I REALLY think you are reading way too much into it. I think most parents would think that was a lovely sentiment. I know many, many parents who have said something similar after having their child.
People cried at Jerry Maguire's "You complete me" but I doubt most of us were incomplete before we met our spouses. I don't think everything has to be interpreted so literally. I also REALLY doubt it's any type of commentary on the childless.
If I picked up that card in the store, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

This is the way I feel for father's day. I don't know what to do with myself.
