moving an oil tank above ground?

Our house currently has an underground oil tank, and DH and I want to move it ASAP. Who do we call to do this? How much should I expect to spend?

Thanks in advance!!

Bets solution is to call oil companies and get over the phone quotes. If you already have a company you are in contract in, they may be able to cut you a deal.

Another option is to call your Town Waste Management and see what recommendations they have.

Re: moving an oil tank above ground?

My parents just had the underground tank filled and purchased a new above ground one.

The company that did it told them that if they dig up the old tank, the EPA has to be called and if there's any leakage AT ALL, they will have to pay for soil testing and basically dig up the yard to be sure ground water wasn't affected.

The rec was just to fill it up with sand and leave it alone. The other option could have run them lots of $$$$$

I would suggest having it filled and abandoned and get a new one above ground.

Re: moving an oil tank above ground?

we had our old one filled with sand and had a new one put in our basement.

We were also told that digging it up could lead to more problems, more expensive problems.

We used Slomins because they were our current oil company at the time and gave us a payment plan with no interest.

Thank you!!

How much should it cost to have it filled + the cost of the new tank?

We used Slomins but we paid them directly. They did a good job and even helped us fill the paperwork for abandonment with the town.
