MTA Doomsday budget calling for $2.50 fare!!!
wHOA.
A monthly card would go from $81 to $103.
Didn't they have a surplus a few years ago? And even after this HIKE and service cuts they predict a $300MILLION dollar shortfall for 2010.

My husband just interviewed for the MTA.. they said they were hiring 'extremely aggressively' - I guess we know where they plan to get the new salaries from!

Those that have to take the LIRR and the subway are really going to feel it the most!
I mean i knew the cost of the commute when i agreed to work in NYC while living on LI but was not aware that they raise it often and never would have expected this propesed increase either.

maybe they should fix thier services b4 the increase. i take the bus to college 4 days and week i have to stand half way maybe they should add more buses!

I know this is crazy and they want to increase the LIRR fare anywhere from 20-30 %. That is just crazy. I already pay $211 a month.
Makes me sick!

unbelievable. i commute from PA to ny every day. My septa (local rail ticket) is $3.00 one way to go one stop to trenton NJ.
I take NJ transit from Trenton to Penn...$352 mo pass; and then the subway a few stops.
Un-real. If NJ transit raises their fares, im looking for work in Philly.

And back to the original topic..
If this fare changes, i'll be paying $312 a month for my LIRR and subway!!
i just don't get it.. the subway isn't getting any better (although the new E trains are nice) and the LIRR sure isn't any better.
What happened to that surplus? and why does the expense of upkeep get higher each year?

Its ridiculous that they are planning to raise the fare! The service has gotten worse! I wait longer for the train now than I ever have. And don't get me started on the number 6 during rush hour. Good luck getting on to that train!
