mucous plug? what is it and when do you lose it?
a 38 weeks i am always looking for a sign. someone askd me about my mucous plug it sounds pretty gross wha exactly is it?

I lost mine at 39 weeks and a few days. I first noticed a light streak of blood and discharge on the tp. Then this glob of mucous fell out. I went straight to the hospital and found out I was 3 centimeters, contracting every 2-3 minutes.

you can lose it anywhere from a few weeks before you go into labor to right beforehand. Its usually described as mucusy snot with a tinge of blood - it might come out in pieces or in one really big glob (the size of a golf ball).

Just wanted to say that my water broke but I never lost my mucus plug with DS. I got to the hospital and was already 7 cm from being closed and tight the day before, so you may never loose your mucus plug.

If it makes you feel better if your water breaks it is usually after you have been lying down so more often then not you would be at home. Some say it's a trickle however, I got out of bed at 2am and WHAM!!............water broke and the flood gates were open and never stopped. It's more likely though that your waters WON'T break then the other way around. (if it makes you feel better)

last time around i started losing it in very small pieces (tmi, but just looked like snot) at 35-36 weeks, basically when i started dilating. didn't give birth until 3 days before my due date.
this time around i was already 1cm dilated at 36 weeks, yet have seen no signs of the plug. so i'm not sure that i'll noticeably lose one this time around...
