Re: MumMums made in China
The concern with food from China is that they do not have the same regulations we have in the US. For example, they are allowed to use pesticides that are not allowed in the US (which is why I no longer buy the mandarin orange sections that my son LOVES - they bathe them in a chemical to remove the peel - those chemicals are banned here).
I do not buy food from china for these reasons - and I especially do not buy shellfish or fish.
The other reason is that it supports cheap labor and supports their economy. I try to purchase products from the US when I can - it is so so so hard, but I make an effort.

Re: MumMums made in China
I'm not anti-China in general, I truly believe we should manufacture goods in the most cost-effective way.
That being said, I wash the heck out of toys made in China before DD plays with them and would be very hesitant to feed her food manufactured there.
Chinese production isn't as regulated as US production is. Products imported to the US are inspected and need to follow certain regulations, but Chinese factories follow their own rules. China is not exactly known for full disclosure and a lack of corruption.
I'm not concerned with immediate illness (a PP said that their DC ate these and never got sick) I am concerned with long-term exposure to products/food that could be tainted with chemicals we don't even know exist.
In a dream world, we'd manufacture products in China, get great prices for them, and get high quality outputs that are safe for the consumer. In the real world, China can cut corners and produce things their way and in 10 years we can find out that their way wasn't the healthiest for us.
