Mums, Kale & Pumpkins for the house
So when are you ladies going to buy your mums or whatever else you might plant or decorate the outside of your house with?
Is this weekend to early to go out on the island and get mums and pumpkins? Are the farms open this weekend. It's my birthday on Saturday and I wanted to go do something nice and quiet and I love going out on the island. Or should I wait and go next weekend?

I bought my mums this past weekend and the nursery had no shortage of kale. Don't know about pumpkins yet. I don't recall seeing any at the nursery, but that doesn't mean they're not out yet. I was focused on baskets of mums.

I want baskets of mums too. I want to put them on the front stoop. We are going to plant some mums and kale in the front yard, but I'm trying to not go over board.

I have to bring my DH with me, otherwise I'll go nuts at the nursery. He curbs my spending.
I'm debating whether I should get cornstalks and attach them to our light posts.

I'm going to wait another week or so for my mums. Ideally I'd love to have them displayed on my porch by the last week of Spetmber.

If you're talking about coming out to Riverhead or the north fork everything is ready. There are pumpkins & mums everywhere out here already. The pumpkins might get rotty before halloween if you get them now but the mums & kale will be fine.

Thanks so much Kelly! Yup I want to go to the farms on Sound Ave. I went to Harbes Family Farm Link to Harbes last year and I loved it. Sweet corn that was so yummy, nice pumpkins & lots of big beautiful mums. I'll keep that in mind about the pumpkins. Maybe I will wait on them or just by new ones if they rot before halloween. Thanks!
Oh and I can't forget to stop at Briermere Farm for some really awesome pies. Yummy! So worth the trip.Briermere Farm Link

I already have a BIG mum plant in the front of my house that we got from a family member. I am planning on hitting the nursery's this weekend & next for my plants so I can plant them. I started to pull out my summer flowers yesterday.

This is exactly what I want to do but I have parties lines up for the next few weekends. I hope I can take a day off and go out there.
btw - my mom's friend buys her pumpkins every fall and puts them on her stoop. she shellacs them and they stay good for months and the animals don't eat them.

Re: Mums, Kale & Pumpkins for the house
My neighbor bought huge Asters for the front of her house at Costco of all places. I think she said 3 for $12?
I hadn't thought about it honestly, but we should get some stuff. We love going out east on an October weekend.

I'm thinking about Purple & Yellow mums, and the orange of the pumpkins for the front stoop. I'll plant some kale in one of our gardens.
Love these pics.

Re: Mums, Kale & Pumpkins for the house
My mums are already in the ground and planted last weekend. I love them.......they are so colorful.
Im probably going to wait as long as I can for the pumpkins.....the squirrels and probably the rest of the clan will destroy them I'm sure. I'm loving this time....
DH & I will be out east this entire weekend--can't wait to see what I can find!
