"Must" Read

If you had to pick ONE book that you would recommend that someone MUST read...what would that book be?

Most recently?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson, but only if that person was ok with disturbing stuff.

I can think of MANY others but you said only one. Chat Icon But I have recommended this one to many people and I chose it for my book club. Nearly everyone loved it.

Catcher in the Rye would be my answer but someone said that Chat Icon

The Godfather is such an amazing book--different and IMO much better than the movie (which I also love) Chat Icon

Re: "Must" Read

heh. It's a Young Adult book.. but the writing is awesome, the messages are beautiful and it was my companion as I grew from a child into a young woman. "A Ring Of Endless Light" - Madelaine L'Engle. It's not 'great literature' - but it's a GREAT story.

Madeleine L'Engle is my favorite author of all time, and this book is one of the reasons why. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Chat Icon

In addition to some of the others already mentioned (Ring of Endless Light, Catcher, Mockingbird, East of Eden), I'd have to say The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri.

I love this book. A few years back, when a passage from it appeared on the Regents, I almost died of happiness. (But I'm a nerd.)

This is the March book for my library's book club. I'm really looking forward to reading it now.
