must report on my nursery experience

So, after everyone's recommendations, we decided to start at cheap sam's and then go to bloomin' haus.

OMG, I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheap sam's!!!! The flowers were gorgeous.... and for the first time in years I walked out of a green house within 3 min with the exact colors of impatiens I wanted... 3 full flats... no mangled flowers, no mixed up colors....

and the new guinna impatiens were gorgeous!!! (bought a bunch of those too)

and finally, I even found a 6' corkscrew willow tree for $30 and a rododendron for $20...

come on, some one ask me how I got it all into my prius Chat Icon

(never even got to go to bloomin haus... my car was WAY too full... next time....)

Re: must report on my nursery experience

I was overwhelmed so I decided to buy nothing today. But we did get my Mom three Pieris 'Flaming Silver' plants, two Dapnes and three Hens and Chicks. I finally convinced her to buy perennials, not annuals, and to get ones that were right for mostly shade. She thinks 1 hour of dappled sunlight in the afternoon constitutes part sun. Chat Icon

I think she'll be very happy with these and actually find them alive next year! Chat Icon

I'm already planning a return trip. Jen, they had Crape Myrtle - a pink and a red variety... I have to do more thinking about placement before I go and do that since they're fast growers and would be 25 feet high.
