My 2 year old got the best of me....VENT (kinda long)
So we had a nice morning. Did a little cleaning and set out for the Ecology Center....her surprise. Stopped at Wendy's to grab a quick bite because it's on the way and I realized it's close to lunch by then. She was very good in there.
Get to park parking lot. DD has a new thing where she wants to push the stroller. But she can't see over it so she winds up hitting people and running into stuff and won't let me help her which inevitably turns into a fight. So now we are parked pretty far and she wants to push the stroller in. I tell her she can push it once we get in to see the animals. WELL, that just would not do. So she flips out. I give her 2 choices, to get in the stroller or we go home. Tantrum continues now on the floor in the back seat of my car. I decide it's best to cut my losses and go home at this point. So I am trying to get her off the floor of the car, mind you I'm 7 months pregnant. So after her going back and forth and me bending and trying to grab her without hurting her I take a step back and fall on my AZZ over the curb that I forgot was there. 7 MONTHS PREGNANT! Almost start crying but pull myself together and then lose it and start screaming at her. FINALLY get her in the seat and calmly drive off. Almost cried in the car twice, but I can't let her see me cry. Completely ignored her the entire way home.
I am usually pretty patient and may raise my voice, but never scream like that. I am still so mad at her. Thankfully she's sleeping right now to give me some time to cool off.
Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Re: My 2 year old got the best of me....VENT (kinda long)
I know the feeling!!! My DS is the same way and we have the same fight. It's so frustrating and I'm not pregnant!!!
I will say that I really don't believe there is anything wrong with your DC seeing you cry. I've had the best results when I have. I don't do it often, but there have been 2 times when my DD was 2 and drove me over the edge. I didn't want to yell and fight, so I just cried. When she asked me why, I tried to explain to her that sometimes when she doesn't listen and acts that way it makes mommy sad. Do you know she actually stopped doing it. I was shocked. Maybe it's the wrong approach, but I think it was good for her to see I have feelings too.

It does get better. It's so hard when they become little ego maniacal control freaks.
Write this down - 1 day - you are grounded when you are 16 for the tantrum you threw when you were 2 years old
Then start keeping tabs.

Re: My 2 year old got the best of me....VENT (kinda long)
Feel better I can relate. I have a very active, stubborn 2 year old and am also seven months pregnant. This sounds like something that would happen to me. If it makes you feel better DD threw a book at me a few weeks ago and hit me in the eye. I had a black eye for a week and a half. It hurt really badly I cried when it happened, so DD felt really bad and started crying too.

Re: My 2 year old got the best of me....VENT (kinda long)
I SOOOOO GET IT!!!!
I'm telling anyone who will listen that I'm so happy I didn't have to fight with DD this morning. It's like a Christmas miracle in May.
Usually it's a fight to take her pajamas off. A fight to get her dressed. A fight to do her hair. A fight to leave the house to go to day care. A fight to put on her jacket. A fight to get in the stroller. A fight to convince her that she can't walk the 5 blocks to day care because mommy has to go to work. A fight to walk up the stairs to get into the day care...
I have any combination of any one or two or five of those fights every single morning, and occasionally she comes up with new things to fight about, just to keep things interesting. My neighbors probably think I'm an animal the way I yell sometimes.

Ugh, we have ALL been there. I can't count the amount of times we have had to leave someplace!
I am not a screamer OR a crier, so on the rare times that I do, it's VERY effective. The kids just look at me like So don't feel bad... what you view as a major outburst might be exactly what your DD needed to see from you.
I'm sorry you had a rough day and I hope it gets better.

Completely ignored her the entire way home.
I remember one particularly tough day out with DD and ignoring her in the car too. I can sympathize. I'm 14 weeks pg I can't wait to see how I manage the tantrums as I get further along.

Re: My 2 year old got the best of me....VENT (kinda long)
Definitely been there, and I will be there again one day, sooner than later probably. Sorry you had such a rough morning with her, I hope the afternoon is much better.
I've only screamed at DS a few times, most times were over safety issues and another time he would not get in the stroller for anything. But actually, since the screaming, he nowll bot holds my hand or asks to be carried in parking lots, doesn't run in the street anymore, and listens to me (for the most part) when we are in a store. So I felt bad about it each time, but I think he learned a lesson each time. And maybe because screaming is such a rare thing, it had more impact. Each time we talked about what had gone wrong afterwards, so if you haven't done that, talk to her when she wakes up and let her know why you were mad.
I know it's so frustrating though--DS needs to do everything himself these days, and most of the time I let him, but if it's a safety issue or will bother others, it's a problem.

Thanks ladies.
I'm in a better place now.
We talked it over when she woke up from her nap (as much as you can talk with a 2 yo). Hopefully she will remember and the next time it won't be so bad.
