My 9 month old will not sleep throughthe night anymore!

This has been ongoing since June. I thought it was the teething and then this summer cold that he cant get rid of. Th eonly thing that will settle him down is a bottle even if it is only water. If we let him CIO, he'll keep screaming without a break.
I've fed him more before he goes to bed. I also have gotten rid of his afternoon nap. He falls asleep on his own in his crib usually around 8-8:15. I just dont know what to do anymore. I feel that a 9 month old should be sleeping through the night especially since he was doing so from about 8 weeks until about 6 months old.
How bad is it that I have to give him a bottle at 3 am every night?
Any other advice? I'm at a loss and have to go back to work in 2 weeks.

The same thing happened to Matthew, we tried CIO at around 7 months and didnt work, and I always gave in and gave him a bottle, because it put him back to sleep.
Have you tried Tylenol before he goes to bed??

We tried CIO again at 10 months and it finally worked.Chat Icon

Yes we have done the Tylenol. In fact I did last night and he still woke up. This is driving me nuts. I'm at the point now and thinking that maybe he's going through a growth spurt and needs that middle of the night bottle. I don't know....

How long will he go if you let him CIO???
I know it is a rough call, I thought the same thing, I kept saying he is 10 months old and does NOT need a bottle. I wish I knew. Like I said we tried CIO again at 10 months and it only took 2 nights of him CIO for 20 minutes and he slept through the night, until last night he woke up SCREAMING at 11pm

Re: My 9 month old will not sleep throughthe night anymore!

My DD went through the same thing starting at 9 months old. She was sleeping through the night since 8 weeks old and all of sudden BAM no more.

Honestly, we tried everything-NO cry sleep solution, Techniques from Baby Whisperer.
She hated going down in her crib and staying there.

Separation anxiety sets in around this time, I DON"T believe at all in CIO, but I do let my kids fuss/cry, but not hysterical, but we just waited it out and in the meantime we did a blend of techniques from both books.

All of a sudden one day she went in her crib for naps and slept through again, it took about 2 months of us being very consistent everyday.

I must have called my PED a million times thinking this is out of her realm, something must be wrong, but in the end he was right, she had separation anxiety and she was testing us and trying to find her boundaries.

My daughter thrives on consistency, and loves to know what comes next.

My advice-def pick something and stick with it, if you decide to CIO, which doesn't work with all babies, go with it-whatever routine you have keep on it, babies are keen they'll get it and before you know you'll have a sleeping baby again.
A bottle at 3am isn't that bad, if you decide to stop, STOP, don't do it one night than not another.

GOod luck!! I know how hard this can beChat Icon Chat Icon

I do recommend the No Cry Sleep Solution book. It worked for the first time, but then he started again, which is when we went to CIO.
It doesnt work for every kid though

We've let him CIO for up to 35 minutes then needed to throw in the towel.Chat Icon

Re: My 9 month old will not sleep throughthe night anymore!

DS went through the same thing starting at 8mth and lasted about a month Chat Icon

We tried CIO but he still woke in the middle of the night. We had to give him some Motrin for his teething, a bottle and the have DS fall back to sleep in our bed. After he was asleep we would then put him back into his crib with a PILLOW!! I know they shouldnt have one but that his the only thing that worked!

Now at 10mth we have gotten past all that. I put him to bed with his pillow and I feed him the his bottle. After about 10min he is asleep and wakes up at 7amChat Icon

It seems like most of us went through the same thing around the 8/9mth mark. Could be a combination of growing/teething/anxiety Chat Icon

DS went through the same thing at that age. He lasted about a month or so. He was getting more teeth in at that time so I think that is reason why he was getting up.
