MY bed time routine issues with my 2 yr old....

Ok....being fair and all...we've given in only so much to the thought of "jealousy" and "regression"

Bedtime is quite the struggle for us with DD.
We cuddle in our bed, read some books (sometimes), then she tells us she wants to take a nap. We go in her room, put on her music/projector, she closes her door, picks a paci, and we cuddle in her rocking chair and rock. Then she asks for family hug and then she'll climb into bed.

THEN....she gets out of bed and opens the door asking for Mommy no less than 3 times...sometimes it goes on for an hour at the worst, sometimes it's not so bad.

I go in, we rock, we do a family hug again, and she tells us she wants to take her nap....climbs into bed...etc. etc.

We've done the "We're not coming in here anymore, this is the last time" and sometimes that works.
We've gone in there, scooped her up, put her back in the bed without cuddling and she cries a bit, and does it all over again.

This all starts at about 8pm....
I'm lucky if I can take my shower before 9pm....and sometimes I go in there even after my shower (while DH does the whole cuddling or talking to thing).

This has been going on since she transitioned to the toddler bed. I am a total loss....shouldn't bedtime be bedtime....nap time ain't so bad. I'm also on the verge of cutting off the TV after her bath (which is around 6/6:30ish with grandma) since we watch Max & Ruby after bath (and pretty much till 8pm)

I'm about ready to try a reward type system in which she has say 3 laminated hearts...she gives us one each time she wants a cuddle and when there are no more left, there is no more cuddling.

I think the key is to be consistent. ONe night you go in a few times, another you don't. She may be confused.

I think the heart idea is good and worth a shot, that and consistency

I agree. I think you may be right to cut out the tv at that time too. Maybe try it for a week & see what happens? I remember Supernanny tackling similar problems, but I wish I could remember how she handled it.

I hope it gets better for you soon. Chat Icon
