My best friend is pregnant

I am so beyond thrilled for her but I am just so beyond jealous. We've been trying for 14 months, she got pregnant on her second month of trying. I was so hoping that we could go through it together, but it doesn't look like it will pan out that way.

I just hate feeling this way. I'm so sick of it. I hate feeling ok one minute and devastated another. I hate not being able to be 150% happy for my best friend, and instead get a pang in my heart when she made the announcement. She doesn't deserve it, and nor do I.

I just wish I had a light switch I could flip, so I could just STOP feeling this way Chat Icon

First off, Chat Icon . The way you are feeling is totally normal. I have been surrounded by pg women lately and have heard lots of pg announcements of close friends and family members. It is normal to feel jealous and wish it was you who were pg. I go through all kinds of emotions from angry, to sad, to jealous. Justi imagine how sweet that BFP is going to be when it finally comes.

Chat Icon I know exactly how you feel. I got pregnant last September and two weeks later my very good friend did too, I ended up losing the pregnancy and now she is due when I would have been in June. It took me a little while to deal with it, I was very happy for her, but it was hard for me anyway.

I agree. It was so hard when my sister got pregnant without even trying.

Re: My best friend is pregnant

Oh I hear ya also. My good friend was going through IF with me. It was so great to have someone to complain with and she just got PG natually 2 months ago. I felt happy for her, but left behind (if that makes sense) because I too thought we'd go through it together etc.... We've also been trying much longer. I'm trying hard not to be jealous also, it's very hard. I had a MC last year and I keep thinking what would have been etc... I think that is why I logged onto this site last week for the first time. It really helps to know you are not the only one and to be able to express your feelings to people who understand. My DH is great but he doesn't get what I'm feeling (though he really tries to "fix it").

Re: My best friend is pregnant

This happened to me. A friend of mine and I started trying around the same time. Well, we are getting ready for her son's christening (I am the God Mother by the way) and I am starting IVF.

Hang in there... you will find the strength to be happy for her. And if your friend is as good a friend to you as mine was to me... she will totally understand.

I completely agree. I felt the same way when I found out my SIL was PG and even after she delivered. I think it's totally normal to feel what you're feeling.

Hang in there, it WILL happen.

Re: My best friend is pregnant

Beth, you are on a hard road. A road so hard the only people that can even begin to understand it are those that have or are traveling it.
I think it is awesome that you can admit that there is a smidgeon of jeaoulsy there. Being truthful with yourself is the best way to help yourself.
Anyone who has btdt undestands the jealousy portion of it. I wish none of did though. Many Chat Icon

Re: My best friend is pregnant

Thanks everyone Chat Icon I'm feeling better now - I allowed myself to have a little pity party and then moved on to focus on everything that I should be thankful for that I DO have in my life.

And, thank god for this board, and for good friends. The very next day, my other closest friend, who was with us when my friend made the announcement, called me to "check in" to see how I was handling the news, and to support me in how I was feeling. It's wonderful knowing that I have friends who, although they aren't going through it themselves, can empathize and offer the support I need Chat Icon

Re: My best friend is pregnant

Beth, I've so been there and it suc*s. You did exactly the right thing letting yourself "wallow" for a while. I also had very supportive friends who always were very sensitive to my feelings. I would constantly tell myself that we all get different things at different times in our lives (sometimes I even believed it Chat Icon ). Good luck, I know how tough it can be.

Someone else posted before I did- at like 4am this morning. They seemed very insensitive to your post and I called them out on it- but I thought I did it in a tactful and polite way. Chat Icon
Someone else posted after I did and now all 3 of our posts are gone. I just am not sure why...

I think the offensive post was pulled so that the rest of the post could stand. I don't think your response was offensive. However, "Surfer" post was.
