there should be sub-acute facilities that have a TBI unit in texas. that's what he will need. If the insurance is not capping out, why can't they keep him there? Insurance is the #1 reason people get discharged. Look into that. Kessler, Burke, St. Charles, Helen Hayes are great but are all acute facilities. Very rarely to you go from one acute facility to another. Usually insurance kicks people out of an acute facility by day 21. I think you may want to keep him in Texas a while longer and see that he gets more therapy. Once he is medically cleared then you can talk about bringing him here. Either way, it's a long road, but don't give up. It's really hard right now, but there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Little steps are still steps in the right direction. Don't let them push you around. Advocate for him the best you can. If you don't no one will.

Im so sorry this is happening. what about Kessler in NJ where Ken is? IDK enough about strokes vs TBI, but from what Danielle has said it seems to be a wonderful rehab facility.

Hillary I am sorry I didn't respond sooner - I don't come on this board too often. I think about you and your brother often and pray that this will all be a distant memory soon enough. He is lucky to have you and a such a supportive family.
I sincerely hope you are getting the support you need through this hard time. If there is anything I can do to support you I would be more than happy to do so.
