My car was just broken in to!
I can not believe this, my car was just broken into and my GPS was stolen. Right in the parking lot at work. I am crying like a baby!

so sorry..
I guess that's why they say to take it in with you.
My dad has one and he takes it out of the car everytime..
I'm so sorry...that blows.

I'm so sorry. That really s ucks!! Like Blu-ize said, they are a hot commodity now...
I never leave my GPS or EZ Pass in the car for this very reason. I don't even want to install the GPS mount in my car b/c I'm afraid someone will break in just from seeing the mount -- even thought the GPS itself isn't in the car.

Re: My car was just broken in to!
That bites!
But like everyone else, it’s true the GPS is a huge break in potential.
Like someone else said, even the mount is an attraction. I try to never leave either up. Actually mine is in my house, somewhere. We only take it out when we really travel. I have a much bulkier, older model I keep hidden in the truck for must have emergencies but since I drive in and park so close to home (considering distance from train station) its just easier to go home and get it.
Otherwise I advise everyone HIDE THAT GPS. Hide the cords, the mount and any indication you have one. Not all insurance companies will pick up the cost of a GPS if it’s not permanently installed (although I think most are starting to).
So sorry this happened to you.

Re: My car was just broken in to!
This happened to us last weekend too during our trip to LI. We were at a hotel in Plainview and someone smashed my DH's passenger window to get our GPS.
Sorry it happened to you too

Re: My car was just broken in to!
It's terrible, but it happened to DH TWICE in the past three months - first his satellite radio; and just last week for his GPS and my emergency kit!
Call the GPS company.

ditto! DH makes me take down the entire thing and put it in my purse so that there's no trace that we have one in the car.
so sorry this happened to you!

Re: My car was just broken in to!
I also read the some police stations are handing out alcohol wipes during their community events. Criminals look for the tell-tale circle on the window that is always there if you have a windshield-mounted holder. The wipes will remove the circle. For most crooks, it's worth their time to ransack your car if there is any evidence that you might have a GPS. Most people hide their GPS in the car somewhere, and if it's in the car, odds are, a crook will find it.
It still s*cks, though....

Re: My car was just broken in to!
We only take the GPS out of the house when we need it for this reason alone.
I'm so sorry. Will your work take responsibility for it?? Do they have cameras?

Re: My car was just broken in to!
I'm sorry- just remember that is why you have insurance. It is VERY violating though- I can only imagine. My hubby is a cop and he says- ALWAYS remove all visable valuables from the car- laptops, cell phones, non built in satellite radios and GPS's. If they see them- they are an easy smash and grab.

I wipe off my windshield after I take down the mount. It is worth the extra 30 seconds to me.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune!
