My commentary on the St. Patty's Day Parade
May be Offensive to Some
But, I just wish they'd cancel the whole thing. I am as proud of an Irishman as the next. But the city of NY has turned an event which is supposed to celebrate the Irish heritage, a great saint, and the art of public drunkeness, into a political cartoon.
Who's marching?
Who's not marching out of protest?
Who's not allowed to march?
What group is the mayor marching with?
Who thinks they should march first?
You don't see this as much any time of the year.
I could be wrong, but you don't see this level of political posturing around the Peurto Rican Day Parade
Chinese New Year - nope
and when was the last time you saw the Oklahoma State marching band publically pull out of the Macy's Parade because Iowa state marched in front of them
What about other religions that may be offended that Santa is the symbol of the Macy's Parade - not a peep.
It truly truly saddens me that they picked a day that I celebrate my heritage to tout political and personal agendas

i agree...
but the CITY hasn't done this, the politicians and all the groups with special 'interests' have....it's almost like who's got the bigger ****, if you will - and want and/or NEED to make a point...
"i want to march first"
"no, i don't want THEM marching...."
or "they can't march before us!" etc etc...."
i hear ya!!!

I agree on many points. It's so frustrating to see something that's supposed to be a celebration turn into something ugly, but I think on a lot of levels, they do it to themselves.
