Re: my dad got worse news
Sorry for the bad news but in a way it's good because they found what's going on and they can correct it now.
My boyfriends Uncle was just layed to rest yesterday. He passed this past saturday he was laying on the couch and his aunt came in and found him dead on the couch with his fists clenched. Autopsy revealed he had two clogged arteries and had a heart attack.
So God bless you and your family and to many happy days ahead!!!! Your dad will be just fine

Re: my dad got worse news
Kara, so glad they found it now. So lucky.
even though this is a big surgery and you will be stressed out, please keep in mind that it was caught in time. He will be ok. That is the main thing. Listen carefully to what the docs say about the procedure.
When he comes out of surgery he will be hooked up to everything included a ventilator. Don't be alarmed. It's normal. Within a few days he will be up around and talking with you.
Be as optimistic as you can for him. Attitude is the key.
I repeat, he will be ok. Where is the surgery going to be done?
If you have a choice, consider St. Francis.
hang in there sweetie. He will be at your wedding feeling even better than he ever felt.

Re: my dad got worse news
dita and Blu-ize -- Thanks for all that information. That is SO HELPFUL. It really is, and it'll help me be prepared for it all.
I appreciate you both taking the time to explain all that.
I appreciate everyone's hugs and prayers... and I just may FM some of those who offered when I get a chance. I'm still working and popping back in to check the boards on breaks.
Again, thanks to all.

please reach out if you want.
Yes, depression can happen after any surgery and just being more emotional afterwards. My cousin had triple bypass 3 years ago and they told him he may be weepy..he just shrugged it off but a few days later he was a weepy mess. I hope your dad doesn't get that way, but if he does, know that it will pass. He will eventually be the same great guy you know and love.
Big deal, but totally fixable.

Re: my dad got worse news
Dita explained what to expect very well.
As far as your wedding, once you have a free minute to think about it again, try to think about what you can do to make it as easy and as comfortable as possible for your dad.
He should be doing pretty good four weeks after surgery, but he'll still be very weak and tired. Think about things like the length of your aisle, how far he'll have to walk at the reception (entrance, just getting in the building, from seat to restoom, etc.,) is there an area in the bridal suite where he could rest if needed, any stairs or inclines, etc.?
If you can, try to get someone to think of these things for you over the next few weeks.

He will be fine by then. My Dad had the surgery 4 weeks ago and he is doing great.
Oh, wow, I didn't realize it was so close. I'm so glad he is doing well!! Thank you so much again for the information. I'm glad your father's surgery went well and I hope he feels better than ever!

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely be keeping this all in mind over the next few weeks.
We actually have a short (70') aisle b/c we are getting married in our parish's chapel, not the main church. Everything at the RH is all on one level for him and restrooms are close to the ballroom. (It's a one-event venue) There's valet parking, so he won't have to walk from the parking lot to the building. There's a bridal suite out of the way with couches, etc., too. It's up stairs, but only about 10 stairs. It has a private bathroom, etc., too.
I'm very glad we planned everything be indoors so he'll be in the air conditioning all day, not having to stand around outside in the heat.
ETA - The doctors all assured us he'd be fine for the wedding, and while we know that doesn't mean 100%, we know he'll be there and feeling pretty good. The doctor said he might be tired and may not dance every dance, but he said he should be fine to come celebrate. As long as he is there and doing as best as can be expected, I'll be happy.

He's already been emotional after learning about it, so I don't doubt that can and may happen.
I really appreciate all the advice posted on this thread. It's really helping me prepare for it. I'll pass on a lot of it to my parents as well.
You guys are all wonderful!!
