Re: My daughters stuggle and story
I work with a woman who's DD is allergic to virtually everything. I'm wondering if it's the same disorder. Her DD is elementary aged and is very well liked by other kids. She really handles her food allergies in stride. It's made her very mature, but she doesn't seem to "miss out" on anything.
I'll talk to this teacher tomorrow and ask her.

Re: My daughters stuggle and story
I'm so sorry you and your little girl are going through this. My son has (minor) food allergies and we have it pretty much in hand so I don't have experience, but wish you the best

My cousin had this. My aunt would make special bday cakes/cookies that weren't really cakes at all. I will try and get the recipes for you

Re: My daughters stuggle and story
PAK - Protect Allergic Kids is a Long Island based support group for parts of kid with food allergies and EE.
They have meetings usually everyother month in Holbrook but you can be a "virtual member" and get information sent to you by e-mail.
The women who run it are amazing and have so much knowledge about help children live with food allergies and EE.
My son is allergic to milk and it is so scary as he will be going to Kindergarten next year and I am so scared something will happen to him.

Re: My daughters stuggle and story
I know of children who are on extremely restricted diets and it becomes normal for them since they don't know any other way. They don't really seem to miss out on the foods they can't eat.

Re: My daughters stuggle and story
What happened? I thought her allergy tests were coming back negative! You are strong, you will get thru it and you will raise a strong daughter who can and will live a very normal life with a restricted diet. Its a little easier that she won't really know what she is missing. But I know it will break your heart. My friends nephew has very severe allergies to everything and had to be fed thru a tube for the first 4 yrs of his life. I know what she went thru and its heart breaking, not that that is in J's future, but you can over come it. Over the last year and 1/2 I have learned that reaching out to people who are going thru the same thing can be very helpful. love you! You know I'm always here

Re: My daughters stuggle and story
I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. My MIL has severe food allergies, but was never able to be given a clear diagnosis by any doctors. She developed them later in life after her second pregnancy (w/ my DH). It sounds similar to what you are dealing with. She is only able to eat a limited amount of things, and can never eat out. I think she handles it better than the rest of us. I always feel bad when we have a function to go to, and she can't eat, but she takes it all in stride. She is a tough cookie. At our wedding she had to bring food, and my BIL took it into the kitchen to warm it up. It stinks, but she manages. Hopefully your dd will out grow some of it. Keep up the great work!
