my doctor called - fertility treatment
well my obgyn just called me and referred me to a fertility treatment. i asked him if they will accept my health insurance and he said they should because its a medical problem. im hoping thats the case it would be a huge relief if not im worried how we are going to be able to afford IUI treatment. does anyone have ghi and if so would i be fully covered for fertility treatment?

I would call the RE that your Dr. recommended and see if they accept your insurance as well as calling your your health insurance. They may have infertility benefits

Some insurance companies actually have pretty good coverage (mine) but you often need to pre-register. If you don't the procedures will not be covered.
Best to check with DH's as well because he will eventually need to get a semen analysis.

he already got a semen analysis it was a low count. the urologist told us we need to go through a fertility treatment. what does pre-register mean? how long does it take?

In order to go through treatments, some insurance companies need to you call your company and get authorization. All it took was a 10 min. phone call to my insurance company. I spoek to someone in the infertility benefits and said I need authorization

I have GHI and my RE accepts it. I did need a referral from my PCP or OB

If you work for a company thats not HUGE and national you are probably covered under the NYS mandate which allows most companies to mandate IUI treatments to be covered with no limit and medications ( if you have RX coverage) related to infertility and all testing.
On a side note, just got an explantion of benefits from my RE and insurance today and my RE charges $175 for an IUI ( but $200 for a sono )
