my dog digs gigantic holes all over our yard!
it's so annoying! It makes our yard look horrible, plus she ends up coming back in the house with her paws full of dirt. Does anyone know how we can get her to stop doing this?

Exercise, exercise, exercise!!! Dogs dig because they are bored, take her for a couple nice long walks every day, it can make a huge difference!
If Misty doesn't get her run in for a couple days, we end up with a crater or two in the yard.

Make sure her nails are trimmed
that brings us to another problem - it's basically impossible to trim her nails. She's a big dog so we can't really hold her down, and she does not stop squirming for anything. We have to bring her to get nails trimmed at the groomer, but I've been putting it off because it's so embarrassing watching the groomer have to deal with how crazy she acts when her nails are getting trimmed.

Yes, we definitely need to give her more exercise. It's been hard with the cold weather and with our schedules. But I guess we need to get in the routine of walking her. I thought letting her run around in the yard would be good exercise but I guess she gets bored with that and decides to dig.

You might want to try doing one nail a day, then give her a treat afterwards. Work your way up to two nails, three, etc.... We did this when we first got Misty and now she sits through the whole thing with no problem.

thanks! we've been trying that, so far with no luck at getting her to calm down. But it's good to know that someday we might be able to get her to sit through it! we'll keep trying!

Re: my dog digs gigantic holes all over our yard!
Just wanted to mention that the added exercise, as mentioned above, will also trim the nails down a good amount. We also had a problem trimming our dog's nails (she is 65 lbs) and were told by the vet to exercise her even more then we were. Worked great for us.
Good luck.
