My dog is sick - really gross TMI.
I don't know what to do! Last night Brutus was acting a little strange, hiding under the bed and just not himself - he wasn't even excited when DH came home.
This is gross so don't read it if you get grossed out.
He pooped at around 5:30PM and then wouldn't go back out for us, even though we tried. He can hold it in for HOURS so we weren't worried.
Then at around 10:30PM we were laying bed, I had my hands on him and I did not feel him move, react NOTHING. Suddenly I look and there is poop all over the bed! It was like it fell out with no effort at all!! When I sat up Brutus turned and looked and his ears immediately went down and he went into the other room. I know this is going to sound dumb but it looked like he was surprised to see it there like he didn't even feel it come out!
I am not sure if DH can take him to the vet today - I hope he can because I don't want to wait until tomorrow. . .Does anyone have any ideas? He is about three years old - not a puppy but not an old dog either.
Thanks!

Re: My dog is sick - really gross TMI.
ollie had something a few weeks ago, she's still not totally over it. There is something going around, when we brought her to the vet he said it was the 18th case that week. He gave her a few shots and told us to feed her boiled chicken and rice until her stools were normal again, then gradually mix in her dog food. It worked but I think she caught the same thing again, I don't think she really needed the vet visit. I hope brutus feels better soon

Awww poor Brutus!
I agree with PPs definitely get him to the vet, he's obviously not feeling like himself and something is up.
Oh and yes, definitely bring a sample just in case they want to test it for some kind of parasite.

Sorry I disagree with this.. The vet visit was necessary and if its still not gone or he got it back I would go again. better safe than sorry. JMHO

Re: My dog is sick - really gross TMI.
I called DH and he said he had a normal poop this morning so he doesn't want to bring him to the vet
He was practically in tears last night and now he can't be bothered to take him, lazy lazy lazy.

That's fine, I wasn't telling her not to take her dog to the vet, I was saying that in my experience, my trip to the vet was unnecessary and a waste of money. But her dog might not have the same thing mine did, clearly it's her own judgment.

Yup, I will try to bring him after work. I hate bringing him without DH though, its just so much easier with two people.

Re: My dog is sick - really gross TMI.
I totally agree that he should go to the vet, but also, maybe stop at a chinese food place on the way home and get a quart of white rice to give to him before you put him in the car-it has to be white rice, not brown, something in the starch will help settle out his belly, also, I don't know how you are with your dog having people food, but some banana would be good for him, and pedialyte (replace those electrolytes (sp?)) Gus doens't like the liquid, but those frozen pops are awesome, he chews them up no problem.

Agree agree agree! And I was totally going to suggest Pedialyte... we gave some to Cooper a few months ago because he had some really bad diareah and the vet said Pedialyte (we could only find the orange flavor and Coop LOVED it!). I hope Brutty-Bear feels better

How is takling your dog to the vet a waste of money if he was sick? How did you know it wasn't serious? And your saying he got it back?? I would take him again.. It really could be more than you think. Please no disrespect at all. I am sure your a great mom to your baby but dont think you wasted your money at all.!!

Only because the neighbors dogs had the same thing and they didn't take their dogs to the vet and their dogs are fine. I did call the vet in the beginning of the week about her diarrhea and he didn't want to see her and he recommended changing her food. I didn't see your comments as disrepsectful, no worries.

Re: My dog is sick - really gross TMI.
Thank you everyone for your responses!
DH called the vet yesterday and he told us if there were no more incidents that he didn't have to come in - it could have just been something he ate. He is back to normal now but we have to bring him in for a checkup soon so I will mention it then.
Thank goodness, I was such a mess that night!
