My dog just attacked a possum!?!?!?
I called the vet and they seemed really calm about it, and said to just monitor her for 24 hours...I'm so nervous she got something when she bit the possum...she doesn't have any bites or scratches that we see, and she didn't kill the possum but she definitely had it in her mouth and bit it...UGH anything I can do!?!??!

OMG, wow. THe only thing I would worry about is rabies and I assume she is up to date on her shots. That is scary!

yup, and I did some research and it's rare that possums carry rabies...seriously I just told DH that we're moving back to Brookly and living in a apt bc I can't deal with nature out here in Nassau county

I had 2 dogs that did this. My first dog (a golden retriever) just held a baby possum in its mouth until my dad was able to force it open! My second dog actually attacked one! When we called the vet they werent too worried either and told us the same, just to monitor them. Everything ended up being fine. As long as the possum didnt hurt the dog I wouldnt worry about it too much.
Hope your doggy is ok

I think as long as the dog has his rabies shots he should be fine.
I HATE possums!
They look like HUGE rats!

I think this is what Brownie did as well, just held it in her mouth actually bc the possum ran away and didn't seem to hurt after it happened...
YUP they look like HUGE rats...UGH Gross!!!!

very scary! so glad your dog is okay and wasn't hurt. i have to admit that i do feel bad for the possum though if he's running around injured.

I don't think it's injured actually I think my dog didn't do anything actually to it, just held it in her mouth We went to look for it in the yard after it happened and it was no where to be found

she's fine, thank you so much for asking! acting like nothing happened, she keeps going to the spot in the yard where the "confrontation" happened though
