My Dr Just Said "Stillbirths Increase Past Your Due Date"

After finding out that the biophysical test results were perfect, I told my dr i want to wait til my due date (may 1st) to make a decision about induction.....he said "okay-but just so you know the # of stillbirths increase after the due date"

I was flabbergasted!! How the heck do you say that??? Now, god forbid something happens to this baby i will never forgive myself/

I'm no doctor, but I would think if that was the case that no one would deliver late, and from what I have heard a lot of 1st pregnancies go past the due date

I can't believe he said that!!! The majority of first births are late! Your due date is an estimate. What an idiot!

If that were the case, wouldn't every doctor induce on the due date????

Something like 40% of pregnancies go up to 2 weeks past the due date.

Sounds like a scare tactic to me.

My ob just had a baby 4 weeks ago and was almost 2 weeks late. I doubt that she would endanger her child if what your doctor said is true. From what she said if you go over 2 weeks late you run can run into placenta issues, but most dr's don't let you go that far past your due date.

If he meant to scare me, then he did. But I know from other drs, you ladies and the 1000 books I have read that this is NOT the case.

What is the dumb doc doing? what is he thinking saying something stupid like that!!! he sounds like a F*$%&^ sales man trying to reach eom sales!!!! Don't worry ,,,,baby will be fine!!! as long as your baby keeps kicking you and moving you should be fine !!!but get a second opinion .....

I am sure there were other ways to tell you that he did not feel confident to let you go past your EDD.

I was 2 weeks overdue and fine. My mom had a stillbirth but it was before her due date. I don't know why your dr would say that

I just researched this and its for those approaching 42 weeks and over (there is a chance 1 in 1000. He should never say that to you since most docs would never think of letting anyone go over 42 weeks if they are truely good doctors. How rude.

WOW! I cannot believe he would say that to you. A women I work with had her first 2 children 2-1/2 weeks late (she's my mother's age). As long as the Dr. monitors you, I really don't see what the issue is. It seems like Drs. right now want to induce the second you go over your due date. Unless there's a medical reason for it, it just really makes no sense.

I would be really upset if I wasn't having any complications and the doctor suggested that - I would have asked if he was planning on a vacation???????

If the baby isn't too big for your body and you don't have a health reason - then this doesn't make a lot of sense - I know after your due date the reasons become more obvious.

Did you ask him why he wants you to go before your due date?

that is what the biophysical and sonograms are for..

while it is true that the condition of the womb starts to decline after a certain point its not like your due date is an experation date or anything...

its kind of like the sell by date on a carton of milk...it doesnt mean that the milk is bad it just means you need to double check things before pouring that glass of milk...

I didn't like your Dr. since your post the other day -- seems like he has ulterior motives -- like a vacation or a quota to fill...!!!

I am so sorry he upset you, and as they say it's called PRACTICING medicine for a reason -- they certainly don't know everything and yours definitely does NOT know how to speak to you.

Honestly - if my doctor told me that - he/she would be my ex-doctor

That is the most ridicolous thing I have ever heard - especially knowing my DD was 2 weeks late.
When I was born I was 2 1/ weeks late, actually alot of people in my family were late and we are all here and healthy.
