My first legiitimate TTC question
DH and I have been talking about it and would like to TTC this fall He finally came around!
Anyway......... I spoke about TTC with my dr last year and he told me that I would go off the pill 3 months before we wanna try and I would start prenatal vitamins.
Now my question is......... What is the actual reason for those 3 months? I think it's to let your body regulate and all......... but if I get pregnant like within the FIRST month would it be safe for the baby? Is it recommended to use another form of BC for those 3 months? Do you get what I'm asking?

Re: My first legiitimate TTC question
They just ask you to wait so they can estimate your due date better once your cycles are more regular. I am not waiting b/c I have heard the first month off the pill is your most fertile - not sure if this is true or not but I know a few women that got pregnant in that first month without really trying so I don't want to miss that window!

Re: My first legiitimate TTC question
My doctor said we could try immediately after stopping the pill. We decided to wait one cycle though (which ended up being 57 days...WHEW!)
Normally a doctor may suggest to wait 3 months just so they can accurately track your due date. Some cycles can be long and wacky right after stopping BCP (like mine!).
But the pill is out of your system quickly-which is why you take it every 24 hours.
Good luck!!

Re: My first legiitimate TTC question
Yes, I believe it's exactly as the ladies have said above - to accurately track your conception date and due date.
My doctor told me that when we're ready, I can stop the pill, wait to get one regular period, then start trying.
Also, if you get off BC three months prior, you can start to get a good idea of your cycles, so it may be easier to predict your ovulation days and therefore get PG. So that can be another reason why.
Good luck!!

Re: My first legiitimate TTC question
OK thanks ladies- but just so I'm clear, there's nothing unhealthy about getting pregnant BEFORE 3 months?
that it will be that easy!! I have been on the pill for nearly 10 years!

Nope, nothing unhealthy about getting pregnant right after getting off the pill. I had wondered too, but there are THOUSANDS of women who get pregnant without even meaning to and lots who plan and get pregnant right after stopping BC. Good luck!

Re: My first legiitimate TTC question
I'm pretty sure there is nothing to worry about... two of my friends have recently gotten pregnant within the first month of going off the pill... and one of them had been on it for 13-14 years! It just depends on the person... some will get pg right away, and for others it will take a while.
