in September! I can't believe it! Anyway, this will be the first time I need to go school supply shopping so I was just wondering where you think the best deals are?

Welcome.

I saved a lot at Target. Same list at Staples was A LOT more.

I don't buy the exact name brands, I buy whatever is on sale. I'm a high school teacher and could never ask for name brand supplies like my home district.

I watched the sales and bought stuff little by little. Got some from Target, TRU, Staples - all based on sales.

For crayons & markers I do buy the name brand - keep an eye on TRU because they will start having BOGO sales. Glue sticks, notebooks and stuff of that nature, I bought whatever brand was cheapest.

Enjoy it, it's an exciting time!!!!

I find the best deals at Target and TRU.

For most supplies, name brand doesn't matter EXCEPT for crayons and scissors. They have to be Crayola and Fiskar. There is a huge difference in the quality.

Last year I shopped around. Target was decent but after I bought I was in walgreens and they actually had some things for less. Staples had a few items. I found that somethings were cheaper at one place but others were more.

This year I said forget it. I got my supplies though the PTA. My district has a deal where you can order your supplies through this site then they package it for me and Ipicked it up back in June. If you missed the order by date you could still order but pay a small shipping fee. You could check youf districts pta site and see if that is an option.

Thanks everyone! I love a good deal so I will shop around. Yes, I am a teacher and def agree that some things must be name brand, especially glue and crayons!

I've been picking up some things at Shoprite. Next week they have glue sticks for $1.50 or something for 6.

TRU will have crayola B1G1 at some point. That's usually the cheapest.

Target is good for pencil cases, scissors, pencils, and marble note books.

I don't usually go to Staples but they are the only ones that have the journal composition books- I forget what they're called.

Primary composition notebooks - the ones with the blank space on top for drawing and lines on the bottom for writing? Walmart also carries them.

Re: My first post here! My baby is going to K

I just bought a bunch of stuff for DD (going into 2nd) from Walmart. I don't know if they were the cheapest, probably not. I know at some point Target does crayons for $0.25, and I paid $0.50, but I didn't care. The stuff was there, there were no crowds and I didn't have to scour store after store for what I needed. I know I still need a few more things, but I'm just about done at this point. Well worth the few extra $ for the peace of mind. This is the same as the supply boxes you can order through the PTA. I highly recommend it. I just missed the cutoff this year. I didn't even know I could still order but pay shipping. At my school, you don't even have to pick it up. The supplies are delivered to the child's classroom before school starts! What a great deal!! I did it last year and it was the BEST!!

OK I'm done and now don't have to go at the mad rush just before school. I feel I got pretty great prices. Got most things from Target and a few from Walmart. Next year I'll probably do the PTA box.

Oh 1 more question. Do you label the individual items or just send them in a labeled bag/box? i know some teachers use the stuff as community supplies so just not sure what i should do.
