My friends dad died
He died yesterday afternoon, and I just found out the wake is 2 nights, Saturday and Sunday and I will be in Jersey for a wedding both days.
We used to be kinda close a few years back but lost touch for a while now. I wanted to be there for her and now that I can't I don't know what to do. Should I mail her a sympathy card or something? I feel weird calling her because we havent spoke in 3-4 years.

I would definitely send a mass card.....if you wanted to do more send flowers to the funeral home w/a card expressing your sympathy...

I would call her I think. Right now I'm sure she'd love to hear from you. It might do her good to have a few mins not thinking about her grief- and letting her catch up with you. I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

I would call her. I have this friend that we sorta fueded for 3 or 4 years and didn't speak. Sadly 3 years ago her mom passed away and even though we were feuding i went to the wake and it was VERY upsetting to see her mom, who has been like a second mom growing up, like that.
Anyway she aprreciated that i came to the wake even though we weren't friends anymore. A few months went by and i couldn't stop thinking about her and i just called her, it was around christmas time, so we got together for some christmas shopping, and it was like we never stopped talking, to this day we are great friends again.
I would definately call her. Maybe she needs someone to talk to and just let her know you're there if she needs anything.

This happened to me as well
I had a close friend growing up, and we lost touch after HS. I was browsing the obituaries (sp) one day and saw that her mom had passed away 
I was not sure whether to go to the wake or not but I decided to go with my mom (me and this person were VERY close when we were younger, I used to sleep at her house all the time)
I am glad I went to the wake, and my friend seemed happy to see me, I had not spoken to her for about 3-4 years before the wake

You're right, maybe I will call, chances are she won't recognize the # and I will get sent to voicemail, but that might be even better.
