Look at those last two pictures and see the absolute joy in his face  at holding Jack. He knew Jack was the future of the family and what a blessing he was able to see that generation.
I do know what you mean about how he felt. Saw my grandmother go through that 20 years ago . In a way, you can't blame them especially if they are the last of their friends/siblings
