My House is Worth What?

We were watching this show last night and I truly believe people have lost their damn minds/perspective.

A couple bought their house in 2003 for $209,000 and put $10k worth of upgrades/investments whathaveyou on the property.

they were hoping their house would be worth....

$450,000.

and when it wasn't, they were visibly SHOCKED UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED.

WHEN did this crazy expectation begin...the sitting in your house for 5 little years would see your investment more than DOUBLE?

the housing market was never this get rich quick thing...why now are people expecting so much out of such little time?

it blows my mind.

This show upsets me. I can't watch it. Either people are greedy like the one you mentioned, or you see some person who bought an apt in Manhattan in 1975 for $200K and its now worth $2.2 million.

This show is pretty worthless. I especially hate the ending when the realtor is all "If I had to price your house today..."

"for today's market..."

"for a competitive sell..."

"I would price it at..."

<lots of nervous looks and frowns from the homeowners>

Ugh. The drama is totally unnecessary. And I hate all the high-fiving when the homeowners get a good number.

This is why I can't watch this show...people just amaze me that they 'expect' their house to be worth something when it is clearly not.Chat Icon
