Glad you're getting a second opinion. I just wanted to add that if you are working you need to stop and go out on disability ASAP!

Are you on bedrest? I am sorry but I do not think your Dr is giving you very good care. if I was you I would immediately get to a high risk ob/gyn for a 2nd opinion. Isn't this the guy that fought you on even checking your cervix? I would hate to see something happen because of his nonchalance.
ETA: this is melijane-I was signed in under my sister's name sorry
i totally agree!! this is something sooooo important.... and my pregnancy could have been saved if my doctor was not so laid back! i shoud have had the cerclage put it.. but it was too late and i dilated and wnet into preterm labor!
i would have the emergency cerclage, it cant hurt! its a preventative!

I just popped over here and saw your post...please go to a high risk OB...We lost our son due to Incompetent Cervix...there is no way that I would take a chance if I were you. The devastation of that loss is horrifying and anything you can do to prevent it should be done...who cares if your Dr. thinks it should be a last resort? What happens if your cervix opens one day (which is what mine did)? There is no way to predict if it will happen and you can lose your baby in a day....
Please go get a second opinion...
i agree , i have incompetent cervix also.. i am in a support group for IC and some girls actually saved their baby by being their own advocate and DEMANDING the emergency cerclage..and they went to full term to have healthy babies!
IC is such a terrible thing, and unfortunately for most it doesnt get caught until its too late

Re: My Incredible Shrinking Cervix
OK, just got off the phone with a high risk ob/gyn and I have an appointment for the 19th. I have to bring all of my records with me. It's kind of far away, but I have also called other drs., so hopefully I can get something sooner.

I live in Park Slope, so I thought there would be an abundance of high risk ob/gyns. in the area, but I only found a couple. I did find a place called Madonna Perinatal, but when I called, a recording said they were closed. I have been searching my insurance website (GHI) for perinatal--do you think I should just call around regularly listed ob/gyns. and ask about high-risk?

honestly, I'd enlarge the area you're researching in.... include manhattan, queens, and nassau.... try to find someone who will see you next week... in the interim, I would be in bed as much as possible. I agree with others, unfortunately, I don't trust your OB's judgement. I think he's being rather nonchalant about this whole situation.....
good luck and I hope everything is ok

I'm so glad you're getting a second opinion. I have no experience with a short cervix or IC, but I've heard enough stories that I would never want to take any risks.
I hope everything is okay!

Re: My Incredible Shrinking Cervix
ya know I know Mineola and BAbylon are Madonnas main offices, I assume Queens and BK are their satellite offices, so they might not be open very often.
Only other thing I can suggest is contact their Mineola offices and ask if they are still in BK and if so when. That might help?
If not, Then I hope this other Dr helps or you find someone close.
Good luck.
You dont have to thank me , I just wanna see a very happy outcome to this .

Good luck! I am glad to hear that you're being very proactive.
I found these for you. Don't know if you've tried them or they take your type of GHI but it's worth a shot.

Re: My Incredible Shrinking Cervix
I have to agree with the other ladies Snickers! My BFF had short cervix and ended up getting a cerclage right after her Level II appt. She was about 1.5cm then! I also have GHI and I know that Madonna Perinatal does take our insurance. Please explain the situation to the receptionist on the phone and get in there on Monday!! Also, can you take a few days off from work until you know what the high risk doc says? I would really spend most of your time on the couch or in bed!! Please keep us updated!!
ETS: I found this medical article which includes what may be medically done depending on cervical length... remember that 1 mm = .1 cm. So, in your case, 15 mm = 1.5cm. For this cervical measurement, the article states that you should be considered for therapeutic cerclage!! 1.6cm - 2.0cm should be on strict bedrest! READ!
