My insurance finally approved my surgery!! And a question about breast reduction recovery.

After an appeal was sent from a chiropractor that documented (with an MRI) my severe scoliosis, my insurance decided to cover my breast reduction/ lift 100%! Chat Icon Chat Icon

My surgery is scheduled for October 7th. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am PETRIFIED, but that will be another post when the time comes closer. Chat Icon

My question is, if you have had this surgery...how long was your recovery?

How long did you need to wear a "special" bra?

Was the bra HUGE and cumbersome? I have my cousin's wedding 3 weeks post surgery, and I have no clue about what kind of dress I will be able to wear.

If you have had the surgery, please let me know what and how long your recovery was like.

TIA!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Congrats!!

The bra I wore after was a light cotton no wire bra. I bought two and wore them for about 2 months.

I went back to work in 4 days.

it was one of the best decisions of my life.

Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

Best surgery ever!! My recovery was fantastic...Not to get too personal, but I had the lollipop surgery and my friends had the anchor surgery and my recovery was better than theirs...After 2 kids i still go without a bra Chat Icon. I remember. My mother called me frankenstein boobs after the surgery because of the stitches and bruises, but they looked great in a few weeksChat Icon

Good luck!

This surgery is in my future, so I would love to hear how it goes for you. I am a 34 or 36DDD, and have severe back issues. Had major spinal fusion for scoliosis when I was 18, and a second fusion for herniated discs last December. I am just waiting until I'm 100% done with having children before having the surgery. Did your insurance company require that you have a minimum amount of breast tissue removed? When I went for a consult, the plastic surgeon said if I wanted insurance to cover it, there was a certain amount he would be required to take out.

If you have had back surgery already for this then you will qualify. They will submit pictures.

I think your doc should send through the paperwork and see what happens.

One of my friends had it done with my surgeon and at first she got declined but then got a few more doctor letters and it was approved.

You will be fine and love your boobs in a few weeks. I was sooooo perky at first. DH jumped by bones two days after my surgery. They do settle down. I don't go w/o a bra usually but they still look pretty perky. I had them adjusted a few years later due to some scar tissue that formed. But I did that only because I had an abnormality and had to have a lumpectomy anyway. I called my plastic surgeon and got him in on the act. He opened me, the onc surgeon took out the margins and then the PS took out the scar tissue and closed me up.

You can have scar revision surgery after and have it covered.
You never know how much scar tissue your body will generate. I had a lot but after the lumpectomy no scar tissue. I also had the lollipop incisions and even the nurses in the recovery room commented on how good it looked.

Yes, I have shown my boobs to people contemplating the surgery. Someone showed me and that convinced me so I do it for other women. (haven't in a while) Chat Icon
