My last day -- what do you think of me saying this to my boss?
Today is my last day of work and I have nothing to do. I even told my boss this yesterday, hoping she'd tell me that i didn't have to come in today but she didn't.
anyway, there's a 3pm conference call that i really don't have anything to contribute, but i know that if i were staying here i'd be on it anyway and the right thing for me to do is to join in anyway. after the call, i'm thinking of packing up my stuff and saying "I'm all packed up. Is there anything I can help you with before I go?" If she says no, then I just leave. If she says yes, then of course I stay. What do you think? Should I do it or just stick out the extra few hours? Or should I say something else completely different?
ETA: One of the girls in my office just came up to me, handed me two lunch menus and said "boss wants to treat you (us) to lunch because today is your last day." I was so taken aback by that. I was at my first job for 4 years and they did nothing - not that I expect it - but they were actually downright mean. Now I feel bad...how can i leave early when they're doing something nice for me? Confusion setting in...

Even though I'd be really tempted to leave asap, I'd stick it out as if it were any other day. You want to leave on the best of terms; don't give anyone a reason to say anything bad about you.

Maybe just ask "Do you need me for the conference call? If not, I was thinking of clearing up some last minute things and then leaving if that is ok?" It depends on your relationship with her. Like someone else said, you don't want to leave on bad terms.

Honestly, you gave them the two weeks. I would be packed and ready to go befor ethe conf call. I see no reason why you would need to be on it.

I know Im the odd ball here. But, today is your last day. They have been completely been making you feel unwelcome since you gave them your notice. I would just ask if you can assist in the conference in any way- If not, pack it up & go on your merry way.
At this point... whats the difference right??

I agree. I would just let my boss know I am leaving at 3 or whenever you want to leave.

I'd just stick it through. As much as it stinks in this very moment, you won't care come Monday. I'd just go on the conference call and stay till the end of the day, unless they said to leave early.
At my last job, it was almost like I was retiring and they had a huge luncheon for me...after that, I left but it was expected.
ETA: I'd stick it out since now they are treating you to lunch!

Re: My last day -- what do you think of me saying this to my boss?
After lunch I kept on bugging my boss to do the exit interview. At 2pm he said 'go in my office i'll be right back'
So I sat there, for a half hour and no sign of my boss. I waited another half hour in his office. At 3PM, I went back to my desk, took all of my issued stuff (phone, laptop, passwords, etc) dropped it on his desk and left.
Screw that. What were they going to do, fire me? I'm sur ehe didnt want to hear what I had to say for the exit interview anyway.....
I had already taken all of my crap out of the office.. I did a slow progression over the 2 weeks of removing my stuff, I knew I didnt want to have to deal with it on the last day! I was running out of there and never turning back.

Honestly, just tell them you are leaving at 3 today to take care of a few things...thanks for everything and I wish you all the best!
Don't ask...just go! My opinion....she's not going to say no!

Re: My last day -- what do you think of me saying this to my boss?
My friend at my job is leaving today too. Lucky guy. Anyway, I saw him this morning and asked if he was leaving early, and he said no.
He gave his two weeks notice, he is all packed up, and not really doing any work today, so why should he not leave early.
I am sure they are not going to need you on the conference call. You wont be here another day and the information that you hear on the conference call is going to be useless to you.
I would stay fro the lunch, and ask your boss if it was ok for you to miss the conference call, say your goodbyes and hit the road Scott
