My little boy is 2 years old today! [lots O pics]
I can't believe it!! We got him when he was 9 months old so we missed the true puppy-ness but I do have one picture of him from that time:
We had met five dogs before him, and none of them felt right. None of them felt like family. The first time we met "Boss" at the breeders, he was so afraid. He crawled into the room because he was afraid to stand up and laid there the whole time
We decided right then and there that he was the one. He was so sweet and gentle, even with a six month old puppy running around and jumping all over him.
We had one week to get all our supplies, since he was our first dog as adults in our home, and decide on a name. We decided on Brinkley because it was the name of Tom Hanks' dog in "You've Got Mail" and we have a lot of connections to that movie.
When we picked him up a week later, he was no braver than the first time. He submissive peed before we even got him in the car, and the breeder had to pick him up and put him in... He didn't know how to get into a car!
Turned out, he didn't know a lot of things and was afraid of anything he hadn't experienced before. A collar, walking in the street, children on bicycles and skateboards, stairs, shopping carts, cars, trains, other dogs. Add his medical issues on top of it, and we had a lot of work to do!
We taught him mirrors are friendly
Swimming can be fun!
Especially when Daddies are around to dry you off with a towel
Fur friends are also pretty great too
But Dad says that fat roll over his leg has to be remedied
So we put him on an exercise regimen and diet and he found even more energy with his new svelt figure!
He learned how to greet dogs, adults and children nicely along with 25+ commands! He's so eager to learn and please people.
Then the funny white stuff came along
And then even MORE white stuff came along, his first big snowstorm experience ever!
We did have some medical challenges but we prevailed!
He met his BFF Ryder and learned how to share with another furry friend
And he met even more friends and had even more fun!
We wouldn't trade this experience for the world. We are blessed to have him, and all the time and training we have put in for him are nothing compared to the love we get in return. Now we are going to get him a brother or sister to make our family larger!
But whew!! All this reminiscing has made Brinkley TIRED! So, thanks for reading... Off to take a nap now, later!

Thanks everyone! He's gotten lots of presents and attention at work today.
lbride, they bought him from another breeder as a puppy with the intention of him being a stud dog for their 2 chocolate females for show dogs. At some point they figured out that he wasn't fit for breeding, they said because of his temperament, but it could have been anything. His height, the line of his back, the shape of his head - it's all really particular. Anyway, they knew he would never thrive there and that he needed a family that would be able to give him a lot of training and attention. Someone else on LIF actually met him before we did, but we were the lucky ones who wound up with him!

Reading this brings tears to my eyes. I still remember looking at him on the site as "Boss" and telling my DH about him. I couldn't imagine him going to a better home with such wonderful and loving parents.
He's a gorgeous, gorgeous pup and so lucky to have you.
